Isn't it funny how the word 'politics' is made up of the words 'poli' meaning 'many' in Latin, and 'tics' as in 'bloodsucking creatures’?

It is rather ironic, isn't it? Though it is blending two languages, with one word having a letter cut out of it.

Still, yes, it did give me a bit of a chuckle.

First of all, good joke.

Now the nitpicking. Poly is not latin, it's greek for many. Polis, however, means city. Thus politics actually means "things to do with the city." It's a holdover from Athenian Democracy.

Also, politeness means "how to live in a city"

Amazing how many politicians aren't polite, isn't it?

I'm now awaiting the rest of the Pedant League of the World to tear my post apart.

They aren't very polite it's true, they were hosts in Saddam's home and what did they do? Eat his food, take his oil and arrest him, what great guests, very polite.

That's what I've been saying since the beginning of the war. They also came earlier then they were invited (preemptive strike) and have worn-out their welcome.

About as funny as the fact that 'democracy' is made up from the words 'demos' meaning people and 'crass' meaning stupid.
