Sherlock Holmes PWNS all the others, if you ask me.

Granted. Whose your fave? Basil Rathbone, Jeremy Brett or other? I think Brett was the best Holmes I ever saw.

Second favorite detective: Colombo

Oh yeah. Jeremy Brett, definately. When he died I wore dark shades and a veil under my fedora...

But then, being a goth, that's normal for me.

Why, it's the man with the action packed expense account-Your Truly, Johnny Dollar (http://www.wayback.net/jd.htm)-americas fabulous freelance insurance investigator.

Man I wish I was making that up. But I'm not. Follow the link. And now that I've heard it (radio drama), I can't get enough...

I've read most of Sherlock Holmes (I may have read everything, but I'm not positive), so my real pick is gonna be Sherlock.

Inspecter frost (from "A Touch of Frost" in the UK), Inspecter Rex from the German show of the same name and Murray Wheelan from the Murray Wheelan series (books, and now telemovies with Boromir from "Lord of the Ring.")

I love Hercule Poirot. A brilliant detective with obsessive compulsive tendencies, a flair for style, and he's the only Belgian protagonist I've seen in popular fiction.

I sort of feel inclined (and feel free to flame me for inserting too much pop culture into the discussion) to also include Major Motoko Kusanagi from the film/manga "Ghost in the Shell."
