And to top Colodia, spelling it with colors is very annoying, mostly becasue people don't know what I mean when I spell it Blue-taupe-teal-orange. I suppose I could spell it with numbers and also annoy people, 19-17-21-9. No, as with most spelling I think the best way not to annoy people is to use letters, something they are used to, otherwise they confused and annoyed.

(Sorry, variation on the stock response to "How do you spell your name?" "With letters, I've tried using colors but it just confuses people. Why how do you spell your name, with smells?" --- I know it's sarcastic and mean of me to misinterpert standard questions but I cannot resist at times)

We Rp'd quite a bit back in his PC days - I swear, he didn't get it right once, he was such a good RP'er though, rather than copy'n'paste it - he worked the inability to spell the name right into his posts! Shit, I used to crack up something fierce!

a typical post would sound something like:

*Jhenova turned to Lasc as he bellowed, "Hey Lacsivuo... Laisciv... Lascvio.. HEY YOU!!!!*

I have to hand it to him, when it comes to mispelling names, he was pretty creative. Don't see much of him anymore though... *sigh* at least he was entertaining.

Yeah, I call you Occy - but only because I seen someone else use it once and it reminded me of Mark Occhilupo (a pro surfer) who has that exact nick. I shouldn't use it... but... I don't know - for some reason, it just feels like it suits you (and no, not because of a refence to it being a boys nick, or having to do with surfing). If you don't like it, I will make an effort to refrain from using it in the future! :)

Shaed
08-04-2005, 10:28
Here I get 'Shade' which... just looks odd, even though it's an actual word.

My nick on other forums is 'sharnofshade' (shade is 'Shaed' mispelled... I used it for a hotmail account and it just sort of stuck). Ironically, people who know me as sharnofshade tend to mispell it as 'sharnofshaed' which... also looks wrong. Even though it's technically more correct than the version with 'shade'.

Damn effects of context and familiarity...

In real life, people like adding extra ls and ns to my name. I get Lilliana, or Lilianna, or Liana... hell, even my last name gets spelled wrong, which baffles me no end. 'Di Sora' =/= 'Di Soria', 'Da Soro', 'De Sorra'. I don't know what people at my university are smoking, but I think they need to cut down just a little.

People also tend to forget whether I'm Weasel or Ferret (I'm Ferret, my friend is Weasel). Often they resort to just calling us both Shrew, which would be alright except that that's an insult :p
The Return of DO
08-04-2005, 10:50
DO isn't hard to mis-spell.

However, many people spell my name wrong in real life.

Katie, Katey, Catie, Catey, etc

Not Katy

and my surname (which I'm not going to write) is always mis-spelled.
Say it was "Jerman" (which it isn't), sounds like "German", right? So everyone spells it German. Or Germen, or Jermen or something like that. It's the best analogy I could think of.

So instead of being Katy Jerman, I'm Catie Germen.

My last name is Lyle. I see it spelled as Lyall, Lyell, Lyal, Lyel

But most comonly it was mispelled as:

Lisle, Lisles, or Lyles

Which are all possible pronunciations for similiar last names.
Lyle being my name, many nick names have arisen including "Lyle, Lyle Pedophile" and "Lyle Crocodile" or "Crocolyle", sometimes mispelled with the "isle"

I was once taking this writing class where we would write letters to each other. Until the end of the year my name was spelled by some as "Lisle". Me liking the variety never told them the proper way to spell my name.

I gave my last name! That eliminates some of the mystery around me...

Truer than you realize...at least in some parts. I get strange questions all the time when I come back from trips. I think the name confusion had more to do with the sound than anything else though. Black people over here have got some pretty strange sounding names.
Anfernee instead of Anthony

okay, my name is Thomas (go by "Tom" except to my mom, to whom I will always be "Thomas Paul, shame on you!")

now there isn't a whole lot to screw up with my name... once in a great while someone will shorten it to "Thom" instead of the standard "Tom"

and I hate being called "Tommy"

I'm glad I wasn't given a name like "Jeff" ("Geoff") or John ("Jon")

hehe

Trying to get people to spell "Shiv-on" when they dont know is always fun too
Hee, one of my friends was named Shiobhan, and nobody could spell her name when they heard it, or pronounce it when they saw it written. I feel sorry for her.
