Its weird, I know John and Paul did vocals, Ringo did drums.
John also did piano/guitar
Paul did piano/guitar/bass
Was George just a rhythm guitarist?

That is weird, I have no freakin idea and I love the Beatles. Maybe he was there for motivation.

Lead guitar - it was mainly Lennon that stuck to rhythm guitar.

George Harrison was the lead guitarist and played/wrote nearly all of the solos. He also wrote some of the best Beatles songs, such as "Something in the Way She Moves" and "Here Comes the Sun" and "Piggies", etc etc. He was a fabulous vocal harmonizer and he was the only Beatle who didn't let greed or a woman break up the band.

As far as I'm concerned, George Harrison *was* the Beatles.

I always liked George Harrison. (Well, I always just liked the beatles even when they got all weird and hippy like; they wrote so many great songs).

I felt bad for him when those british 'actors' ripped all that money off him.

George was my favourite Beatle. There's not one song of his in the Beatles' catalogue that I do not like. The entirety of 'All Things Must Pass' (a four-disc LP set), released after the dissolution of the Beatles, comprises all the tracks that for one reason or another (those reasons being John and Paul) didn't make it onto any of the Beatles' albums while they were together.

A great album. A great musician. And not nearly as appreciated as (I think) he ought to be.

for the first four years of their existence, the Beatles were a 3 man thing. George jsut followed them around, and strummed his guitar (made of carboard and chewing gum.) at last, John saw potential, and made him band waterboy.

That's not quite true - he joined almost immediately, although Lennon initially was uncertain. But from the start he was a good guitarist, able to imitate people like Perkins and Atkins.
