Yeah, it's actually kind of sad, considering I'm 27, with two small kids. Well, I didn't need a vehicle for the longest time, since I went to University in the city and public transport was WAY more efficient than risking cross-town traffic. The I lived in the Northwest Territories for three years, and drove to work on a snowmobile. Or walked. Now, I'm living back out in the boonies, and need to drive to pretty much get anywhere, and my husband works up in a diamond mine for two weeks out of every month, so I can't get him to shuttle me around anymore.

In any case, I'm quite excited by the whole thing, and it's opened up a whole new world I hadn't even thought of before...better late than never, I suppose, and now my folks can shut the hell up about it! :D

congrats! i, too, took a long time getting my license (i was 19 before i got mine), and i haven't driven in many moons...i'm all about public transit! but it's really handy to have a license, and really good to know that you can drive if you need to, especially if you live in a place without public transportation.

Around here we experience a lot of road rage...the farmers take their huge combines out on the highways, and block off a lane and a half, forcing you to inch around them, nearly going of the road in the process. Which is totally illegal on their part, but oh well. :headbang:

I've had my licence for 19 years now, and I still enjoy the freedom.

One word of warning, Accidents do happen (I have had three cars written off, NONE my fault) so please always wear your seat belts.

Enjoy yourself. :D

And Lav...I just may take you up on the invitation to visit some day...I love White Rock!

The diamond industry is by far the biggest scam ever pulled on the human race.

You beat me by a decade. I only got my car licence some six years ago (I was 37). Prior to that either I was living and working in London, where a car is about as useful as a pork butcher at a bar mitvah, and I got around by motorcycle, (I've had a motorcycle licence since I was 17) or bicycle (or even at times a tandem or a horse), or I was a poor student and could not afford a car even if I had obtained a license. Now, in Brazil, a car is required for most things more than very local stuff, as public transport is bad between cities.

I got my license in October 2004. I was supposed to get it December 2003, but I waited until January 2003 to get my permit, so then I was supposed to get it in January 2004. Then my parents were being bitches and said I wasn't allowed to get my license until 18. Needless to say, after they realized that I would be doing a lot of things, like a having a job, doing sports, having after school meetings, and obviously socializing, they realized it was more convenient to at least let me get a license and arrange for me to get a car and then pay them back (I also pay for insurance). So, I ended up getting my license less than 2 months before my 17th birthday.

Thanks for the randomness:). But you're right. At least these aren't blood diamonds! And he doesn't mine...he's an electrician.
