Which do you think is a better series. Personally I go to Alex Rider. I tried to read the first Harry Potter book and was board within a few pages. Alex Rider is far more interesting and altogether just plain cooler. What does everyone else think?
EDIT
A number of people here have voted desipte not having read both of them. I think its only rearly fair to vote if you have either read or attempted to read both books

Who on Earth is Alex Rider? As for Harry Potter I've read all the books, quite good, could have been better. What ever gets the kids to read...

And recently a sixth book has come out called "Ark angel". Has this not reached American shores yet. I personally think its far better than Harry Potter but thats my opinion.

I don't know if it's in America yet, you should ask an American.

Ergh! I think I'm going to vote for Harry Potter, a 14 year old MI6 agent just isn't my thing.

I haven't read any of the Alex Rider books, but from the link that was posted, it strikes me as being truly a kids' series (although I'll readily admit that I could be 100% wrong about that - it's just my initial impression of the series without knowing anything else about it), whereas the Harry Potter books can be enjoyed by anyone from ages 9 to 99. Personally, I've read every one of the Harry Potter books and never found them to be even the least bit dull - and I'm a grandmother 5 times over! :)

I haven't stumbled over it in the book stores (of course, I haven't been looking for it either), but it can be purchased through amazon.com without having to go to the UK site.

I ain't voting, but I'll admit that it occured to me that it takes more suspension of disbelief to put up with a teenager MI-6'er than a wizard.

Which one of those is physically possible though? Also, I would recomend reading the Alex Rider series. The author makes it more realistic than you may think.

From what you're saying, coupled with the description on that website, it sounds a lot like Dan Brown's style of writing, except for the fact that it's aimed at the younger market. Would you agree with that statement?

I'm sorry everyone out there who preferes Harry Potter but Alex Rider rules! Who doesn't want to be a teenage spy?! I mean come on, he had that cool gum thing that blew things up and people want to kill him and with the barge boat thing?! Dude that was cool! I will admit I am a little obsessed and happen to have Arch Angel twice ... but I love it!
To conclude, the Alex Rider books are better. And also more believable.
I'm not comletely dissing Harry Potter it's just Alex Rider is better ... sorry ...

Having not read any of Dan Brown's stuff I wouldn't know. But the writing style is definitely sophisticated and mature, aside from the main charachter I believe this could easily be an adults book.

I have never heard of Alex Rider, and I'm a Potter fan. Yeah I know it's not great literature or anything, but it's a good bit of fun, as long as you don't pick holes in the plot, like my bf does! :p

I tend to do the same ... My problem is I started reading better fantisy novles then that (more into sci fi though) they were not "Great" literature but they were better then the potter series
The shannara (damn I dont remember how it is spelled) series is a solid series

Even though Harry Potter isn't great(it's O.K. if you just want to read something and have run out of other books), Alex Rider looks...ugh. Reminds me of that crappy movie Agent: Codybanks. Having a book/movie where aTeenager becomes agent in CIA/MI6/KGB/ISI/god knows what other agency just sounds bad. Seriously.

Does Alex Rider have a friend with several siblings and an eating disorder AND a smartass anal-retentive girlfriend?
I can't support this Alex Rider. A kid in M16 is unrealistic. I much prefer Harry and his biographical stories published by Rowling. I wonder where she met him first?

people who complain that a kid in mi6 is unrealistic must NEVER have read harry potter.
I think a wizard boy godmod who gets into adventures each year at school and still manages to pass his GCSEs without being suspended is incredibly stupid, and he can also do any magic power he wants. with his little friends . and a big nasty wizard which i Interpret as dick dastardly.

I'd say they're both panzies compared to Gandalf.

Alex Rider is mediocre, IMO. I think the latest book was the worst of them all, especially the part about the Caesium necklace . And the part in the second latest book about him spreading bird seed in an Italian (I think) square and lots of birds coming and dismounting a man on a moped who had stolen a purse.
The other books were alright, although I read them a very long time ago, but in some parts Harry Potter seems more believeable! It reminds of the that damn Cody Banks, curse him.
Harry Potter compared to other books is arguably not very will written, I think it is btw, but I enjoyed HP far more than Alex Rider.
However Lord of the Rings pwnes them all, Gandalf is just a badass
