I have a no longer made 80's Gibson Epiphone... I'm told since that particular style... (don't aske me what it is... bought it from a bud in a band for $150), is no longer made... no I was told this 10 years ago... It's worth over $1K... that was back then... I just play around w/it... I have to sit down w/it semi-upright to get my fingers around the fretboard...

I have a no longer made 80's Gibson Epiphone... I'm told since that particular style... (don't aske me what it is... bought it from a bud in a band for $150), is no longer made... no I was told this 10 years ago... It's worth over $1K... that was back then... I just play around w/it... I have to sit down w/it semi-upright to get my fingers around the fretboard...

Two things on the bass: one: do you have a picture :) and two: something that helps get hands around the fret board, try shortening the strap, you should eventually get your hand around the fingerboard with your wrist still pretty much straight. Works for people with tiny tiny hands, usually. If that doesn't work, I dunno how to help. Sorry.

Myself and an luthier (maker of stringed instruments) here in town are going to design and build it. I've got some ideas, but nothing solid.

Anyway. I play an Ibanez Soundgear bass. If you can't get your hand around either shorten the strap (as Branin said) or make the fretboard "stand up" more. Like this (http://www.korn.it/images/Foto/Fieldy/Fieldy3.jpg). And pay good mind to where you put your thumb. You shouldn't get it all the way around. Just put it somewhere halfway on the bottom of the fretboard. If the strings are too hard to press onto the fretboard then get them readjusted so they'll be closer to the fretboard and therefor more easily played.

I always correlate the distance the bass is from ones chin to the skill of the bassist (the closer, the better the player).

I know from handling other people's basses that mine is huge in comparison... and w/one that fit... damn... I may buy a new one this summer so I can actually PLAY it and learn to play it well!
