I've had it! Today my kids have ruined yet another DVD movie. ARRR! I want to make a backup copy of some of my DVD collection - particularly the ones more popular with my kids. Does anyone know of some software which will allow me to make a backup copy? I don't need all the extras, just the movie so I can give it to my kids and let them have their way with it while I safely tuck away the original. Please help me!

this is a good one. if you want to do it properly (ie. well) i advise paying a little (sure, you don't have to but this works) and buying this program. and also buy DivX Pro

Check you local laws if you are actually allowed to make such a copy first.

If so.. the ripping of DVDs is a very popular activity that mostly is done for illegal purposes. In other words: lots and lots and lots of software is available, and easily found with a simple google search. But I do advice having good anti-virus and anti-adware and anti-spyware programs installed.

Thanks guys, they only software I've found online is for ripping home movies. DIVX is one of those I think. As I understand the local law you are entitled to keep a copy for personal use (backup). Trouble is that commercial DVDs are coded differently than home movies and require special software. I've found some that looks like it may do the trick, but it is difficult to tell sometimes for sure if it can do everything it claims. I thought it'd be good to see who here has some ideas.
