In Tsunami Area, Relief Is Very Slow in Coming (http://www.nytimes.com/2005/04/06/international/asia/06aceh.html?th&emc=th)

ANDA ACEH, Indonesia, April 3 - Three months after a tsunami devastated this city, vast areas remain a flatland of rubble, mud and stagnant water where only palm trees and the stumps of broken buildings break the low horizon.

Tens of thousands of bodies from among more than 126,000 reported dead in Aceh Province have been cleared away and nearly half a million homeless people have found other places to live.

But among the ruins here, and for many miles along the coastline of barren fishing villages, almost nothing seems to have been done to begin repairs and rebuilding.

:( The way of the world i'm afraid. Promises are so much easier to give than money. :headbang: Anounce that you've GIVEN money not that your GOING to give money.

Apparently, it's not that money hasn't actually been contributed, it's that it has yet to make it down to the people ... a sad but not uncommon story. :(

So the governments haven't allocated the aid? Thats even worse. Someone needs to intervene but who?

I was under the impression that the governments kept the money for themselves... maybe not.

It's not like they haven't tried that in Aceh. Only since 1970.

Anyway. I hope that would happen in Indonesia. Their government couldn't be much worse.
