I'm not sure whether this is perverse or not....

...but I'll ask you anyway. I thought it might be fun to look at peoples houses from above, and we can all see where everybody lives (in the US), but then I thought it might be slighlty stalker-esque so now I'm not sure.

If you want to do it then it's the Google map site - http://maps.google.com/ for the US and www.multimap.com for the UK.

but I'd rather have an answer on whether this is perverse because my morals are in a crisis. It seems ok and potentially enlightening, but also wrong in an underlying sort of intruding way.

I think it's fine, as long as you don't know who you're watching. Reminds me of a story in the news during the week where an elderly man had a look at a webcam in some tiny English town, saw a break and enter and phoned the cops (in the UK) to report it. Caught the guy too. ;)

You do realise that these are just ordnance survey maps don't you?

They're not actual satelite images right?

:p

a) Morals are constructions, if yours are in crisis, make new ones.

b) Well, privacy is a right that we should all have, and lose only by either free will, or judicial order. Since this service doesnt fit in neither of those two descriptions, it should not be allowed. I mean, with this service, it is possible for people i dont know, without my authorization, to see me walk around naked in my backyard. INADMISSIBLE|

If you press satellite on the top right of the Google page then they are and I think its a photo icon on the Mulitmap site.

I don't think most do, and for all I know it was a private cam that was pointed out a window.
