RPG Murder Most Foul

A gamer in China was so annoyed that his friend had sold a cyberweapon lent to him in the online game Legends of Mir 3 that he murdered him.

A court in Shanghai heard that Qiu Chengwei, 41, allegedly stabbed competitor Zhu Caoyuan repeatedly in the chest after he was told Zhu had sold his Dragon Sabre weapon used in the popular online game.

Qiu and a friend had jointly won the weapon online last February, and lent it to Zhu who then promptly sold it for 7,200 yuan (US$871).

Qiu went to the police in Shanghai to report the "theft" but was told the weapon was not counted as real property protected by law.

In further discussions Zhu then promised to handover the cash but an angry Qiu lost patience and attacked and stabbed Zhu to death at his home.

The case aside from murder has added to the legal dilemma in China where no law exists for the ownership of Internet gaming weapons

Wow I get worked up over computer games but this is ridiculous

Those crazy chinamen...

Is it me, or do people in the far east take their computer gaming a little too... seriously?

Such as the kid that died because he didn't eat or drink on a marathon of Counter Strike? Or was that Everquest, I can't remember.. Not that it really matters :p

It was EQ. Had it been a good game, I'd probably have built a shrine and done the same thing. Aaaaaah, death by EVE. xD

Firstly: The title of this thread led me to believe that somebody had shot a Rocket Propelled Grenade into somebody else.

Secondly: Everquest 2 apparently has a /pizza command that will open a browser window so that you can order something from Pizza Hut online. No more geeks starving to death. :p

Yes, yes, I know what an RPG is (I've played AO, SW:G, Everquest, and WoW at various times), but I never really thought of connecting murder with THAT form of the acronym. :p

Incidentally, Anarchy Online is now free for an entire year. So jump over to the official website, download it, and get questing!

Lol! Probably as good a reason as any not to play it, although the earlier release's bugs put enough people off.
