I'm definately voting the Tim Burton one- it'll have better actors, a better script, better special effects (goodbye, diarrhea river,) and better music (has Danny Elfman ever disapointed?) But the number 1 reason this will be better than the 1971 version is... IT WON'T BE A MUSICAL! But still, what do you think?

That's funny, that's the number one reason why it WON'T e better than the original...anyway, that's what I think. Besides, the Oompah-Loompahs SANG in the book, what's wrong with them singing in the movie?
Oh, right - it's Tim Burton we're talking about here. Feh.
Maybe Johnny Depp'll make it worthwhile...

Well.....
I have to admit liking the Gene but I heard Dahl's widow liked the Burton version. She said Dahl never liked the 71 movie.
It looks fantastic so far. Not many going to like it because it is more dark then the original movie.

The Tim Burton version will have some singing- such as the Oompah-Loompahs, but there won't be any bursting into song a la I've Got a Golden Ticket, or Cheer Up, Charlie, or any of that nonsense.
Cannot think of a name

How soon we forget Planet of the Apes. Sorry man, Burton can make absolute crap. He also can make some good stuff...but nope-not going to pre-judge this movie as 'better.' Gene Wilder made a great Wonka, the first one had a magic to it. Burton's might just be crawling up his own ass. I haven't liked the trailer.
And Elfman-jesus christ I hate that guy. You can only change the mode on the same tune so many times (Try humming the first few notes of The Simpsons, Tales From the Crypt, Batman, and Beetlejuice. If you don't see that they are the same you are not trying.) The only time he's done good is Nightmare Before Christmas because they where pop songs-what he should stick to.

Hate to burst your bubble, but there are songs in it.
I can't judge for myself, as I've not seen Tim Burton's version yet (then again, who has?). However, I liked the 1971 version.

It stops you from smoking and brightens your smile,
But it's repulsive, revolting and wrong,
Chewing and chewing all...day...long.......
the way that a cow does."
