For some unknown reason, I woke up in my usual mood: just pleased as punch to be here! :D
I'm interested in how you define "happiness." Not a dictionary definition, but what "being happy" means to you as an individual. Nothing on Earth makes me happier than making my grandchildren smile and laugh. Isn't it rather ironic that making someone else happy makes most people happy themselves? :)
Bah humbug.
Anyway, I think being happy, it's a really hard question to answer because so many things can make you happy - being in a relationship, spending time with people you love, making them smile or laugh.
Watching a good comedy, going out for a beer with your friends, having a great game of hockey.
I would say that generally what makes people truly happy is a social thing.
As for grandchildren, well I hope to be able to do that one day etrusca, but for now I'd settle for a wife to have my own children with :p

Happiness to me is when my 2 children look at me and smile or laugh. That is the most beautiful sound in the world to me. If my family and friends are safe, healthy and happy, then thats what makes me happy.
Happiness is also getting in the car and one of your favorite songs begins to play.
Its being able to help someone else who needs something ....whether its material goods or just lending an ear.

Happiness, to me currently, is spending some time with my SO. He and I live some 300 kilometers apart and see each other very infrequently. It has now been some 5 weeks since I last saw him, so spending a quiet weekend with him, just talking, walking and making a road trip perhaps with no other people to fuss around and about would make me happy.
And yeah, I'd love to be able to sleep without medication.

I remember those feelings well ... almost a giddy, lightheaded feeling, combined with a stomach flutter or two. Ain't love grand! :fluffle:
Why do you need medication to sleep, may I ask??

I do not need to be happy.
I am content.
And why you ask? Being content means that you don't have the high of being happy, but if something happens, you don't have a sharp fall from the point of being happy. Being content is optimistic neutral.

not clinically diagnosed, but, as far as myself or family can assess, yes
happiness, to me is many things. It could be a smile from a loved one, or a laugh from a child. it could be the understanding of nature, or the watching of deer frolic in the woods. It could be just a feeling that comes out of no where, but one that is welcome.
There is content happy, like when you hold a newborn for the first time, and it snuggles up to you.
there is the hyper happy, where you just want to run around and scream, like winning the lottery.
there is the active happy, when you just want to run and enjoy, like finding a hidden glade and you just want to enjoy.
there is the peaceful happy, like when you look across the table and find your loved one smiling back and you get locked in a moment.
happiness
to smile, laugh and to play,
a break from the mundane norm,
to enjoy a lovely spring day.
a break from the industrial from
to dance about, jump and shout,
a break from the restrictive hold,
to be away from worry and doubt.
a break from the wind and cold.

Strangely enough:
I had to go to the bank today, and as actual offices of that bank are a little rare here in Berlin (stupid bank), I have to either take the bus or the subway to get there.
Although it is rather cloudy and rainy today, I decided to take the bus; luckily I got a double-decker bus, and I got the seat in the upper deck right up front. While I was sitting there an absorbing my urban surroundings, I realized how damn happy I am.
It's great to live here, despite all problems Berlin has, and somehow, somehow, after I myself had to go through some dire straits, I finally see a glimpse of hope. :)
And, to quote a song: Happiness is a state of mind, I guess...

Um ... don't you think it would help to consult a physician and see if they can prescribe for you?
Sure do wish I could help in some way, but that's way outside my areas of competence. :(

Having gone through some "dire straits" myself, I can honestly say that it's made me happier in the long run, if for no other reason than that it takes less to make me happy by comparison. :)
Cngratulations on coming out the other side! :)
BTW ... the band "Dire Straits" is one of my favorites. :)

thats nice :fluffle: but i'm ok... its a long term condition anyway so its not debilitating & i've learned to live with it. but yes, i should go to a shrink or something but... lets just say there are reasons that make it not that simple (nothing medical, just that, for a start, i don't know which GP i'm registered with & the ones here won't talk to me)
thanks for the concern though :)

Why do you need medication to sleep, may I ask??
Ah, well, I've had a bad insomnia for about 18 months now. 4 hours of sleep per night in max because I just can' fall or stay asleep.
And before you ask, according to health care "professionals" there's nothing wrong with me, and if there is, it's all my fault and none of their problem. ;)

my happiest moments are when my SO falls asleep either on my chest or in my arms. And when i do things like whisper to her that i love her or kiss her on the nose or cheek, she gets this littl esmile, and makes a happy little groan, and cuddles harder. It's almost obnoxiously cute. :D
i've actually been genuinely unhappy for the first time in a while for the last couple of weeks, because she's goin through some tough crap, and it's putting a strain on the relationship. but we had a good 3 hour long phone conversation (she lives 300 miles away. stupid college) and patched things up. not fixed, but patched. so i'm pretty sure I'm happy again. i got way off topic.

Have you ever heard their song, "Industrial Disease?" It's hilarous! "Two men say they're Jesus, one of them must be wrong!" :D
