Dreamcast. After that, SNES and Mega Drive. After that... probably Gamecube.

Although you definitely can't class my first amiga as a console (it was a sorta home pc kinda thing) it would take the cake for the machine on which I had most fun playing games.

Games today stress looks over gameplay, which, if you knew the right games for the amiga, was not a problem:p

Out of the modern consoles, although I don't own one, I'd have to say that the console I admire the most is the playstation range. They have an excellent blend of value and variety of games, aswell as some of its own primary titles such as GTA.

The X-box although it is an excellent console, I can never forgive for stealing 90% of the best PC titles since its creation, and in the progress ruining the PC versions which then turn into shitty console ports.

The Nintendo range of consoles while having some truly excellent games just don't have the range and variety of either the X-Box or PS2, so it ends up falling short.

damn this should be multiple choice! favourite of all time would be the SNES, but the Megadrive rocked, the N64 was awesome, and now i love my Xbox :)

the PS3 is going to rule all though - they have a brand new kind of processor called the Cell. its ridiculously powerful and takes computing to a whole new level. PCFormat did a big article on it this month

Speaking from a technicians point of view, all but the PS2 are good.

To rant for abit. Sony ripped it's customers on the PS2. Shitty hardware, poorly put together, with cheap parts. It probably cost Sony about 20 bucks per unit to put together.

X-Box and game-cube on the other hand, are very well put together. Using solid hardware, and tough cases. (It's not a rumor by the way, that the X-Box actually costs MORE to build than what MicroSoft sells them for; instead reaping profits from game-sales).

I'm addicted to my PS2. But when I was about 9, I was addicted to my C64 as well. The difference is, I was 9 then and didn't have to worry too much about other committments viz. uni, partner - the PS2 is a little bit evil for tempting me away from these. But I still love it!

Having said that, I think the X-Box is a better designed piece of hardware. But GTA:SA came out on the PS2 first, and you can play PS1 games on it too, so it still wins for me :D

My favorite's definitely the SNES, with the NES in a very close second. Well, now that I think about it, I have better memories of playing NES games with friends a long time ago, so yes, the NES is my favorite.

I don't play consoles much anymore. But Goldeneye is one of the best games for N64, maybe even for the whole gaming community.

Sega Genesis!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I saw you voted Other. In case you don't know, Mega Drive = Genesis. Mega Drive is what it's called here in Europe.

Hmm. I did not know that, but now looking it up, I see that it was called the Mega Drive in Europe and Japan. I wonder why the US has to be so different. Oh well. If I could change my vote, that's what I would vote for.

'Tis a bit odd, but you know, Genesis does sound a lot better than Mega Drive.

Ah. That's logical. I like the name 'Genesis' better than 'Mega Drive' anyway.

I played the N64 and Sega Genesis the most, followed by the PS1. I think my favorite N64 games were Starfox 64 and Tetrisphere! I also liked Goldeneye, which is strange because I usually don't play those types of games. On the Sega Genesis, I played the Sonic games (of course) and Columns.

The Amgia was before my time, but I'm going to give it props because my boyfriend is so into them. I'll admit they can do A LOT of stuff and work like a dream!

I think Pcs are fifty times the gaming rigs of consoles but if you measure how much playing enjoyment I got out of consoles i would rate them:

SNES
playstation
atari 2800

For the greatness of the games currently around

Xbox
playstation2
playstation

PS2 for me. They got in on the console market relatively early on, unlike Microsoft which just swallows the competition. PS2 has the far better games (Halo = Overrated), I've been playing GT4 for roughly 2 weeks straight now... and the one thing that just angers me. People go on and on about how the XBox can be used as a hard drive. 1: It is is heavy and clunky, and 2: when people buy a games console I assume that that's what they want to buy, not some stupidly heavy, clunky machine that *gasp* can be used as a hard drive (hint: the iPod saves on airspace).

However, the XBox does everything well except play games...

The three main consoles all have their good point. PS2 and X-Box have the better games, the X-Box just edges it with X-Box live (which rocks).

I wish it was multiple-choice. I absolutely adore the Gamecube, best console around. Loved the N64, but not enough to beat the Mega Drive. We still have a Mega Drive in our house (despite the fact that my brother has owned/owns every console under the sun) with about 50 games because it's just so great.

While that's true, it hasn't always been the case. X-Boxes were actually breaking even up until last fall. Sony decided to drop the price on the PS2 to $200 ahead of schedule to capitalize on the holiday season. Microsoft felt it had no choice but to match the price drop in order to keep sales competetive, despite the fact that there was only a $40 difference.

That says an awful lot about the quality of the systems when they both sell for $200, and Sony makes money while X-Box loses money.

In case you didn't guess, i voted X-Box. Every single person I know who owns a PS2 is on their second one, or has had repairs done on their first, and you can't beat X-Box's optional warranty plan.

I don't like to compare the old consoles that I loved in the past (NES, SNES) with the newer ones since they differ so radically. For that reason I voted for Gamecube, which is my favorite console right now. So many great games of such high quality... (I'm currently playing Resident Evil 4, and it rocks!)
