John(or whatever it is when translated into another language).

Because there are over 2 billion christians, and since the name "John" is very popular amongst Christians.

Of course, my name is "Jon". Yes, that Is my full first name.

Not many Chinese people have first name Chan. Also, there are no words in the Chinese language specifically reserved for first names, like Matthew or Luke in English. Chinese parents make up names for their children from other words, with the result that Chinese people have highly diverse first names and every first name has a unique double-meaning. It is doubtful that a single Chinese first name is very widespread. China might have the world's most common surname though.

I think a common Christian name like John or a common Muslim name like Mohammed might be the most widespread male first name in the world. Li (very widespread in China and Korea), Liu (Chinese), or Singh (Sikhs are required by religious law to take on this name) could be the most common family names.

The question didnt say first name or last name, it asked the most common name. So... Chan.

Sheerly numerically, I'd have to say you don't have it on the poll, Plutophobia- "Chen"/"Chi'n" is probably more common than Muhammed, which is, admittedly, a name common throughout the eastern hemisphere and in regions of the western Hemisphere.

Interesting, although the order of rank that the website offers doesn't sound completely accurate. No way Lin is higher than Li.

http://zhongwen.com/x/xing.htm

lists the most common names
Wang - Chen - Li - Zhang - Liu

Chan is a completely different syllable from Chen, I can't think off the top of my head any Chan characters that are surnames...

I read a little more into this, her Chinese family name is most likely Chen. I don't think there are actually any Mandarin surnames called Chan.

I don't know, but it would stand to reason it would be a Chinese name.
