A trend in the theme of pop songs

I am not exactly massively into pop music myself. I'm more into rock and specificly soft rock atm. However I have noticed something interesting about recent pop themes and am wondering if its a sign of the times. Songs by girl bands are more often vilifying the male partner in the relationship or claiming they have done something horrible to them where as boy bands are being rather hopeful, sensative and romantic and are often asking for their partners back, claiming they are sorry and other things. It seems that the female position is much more dominering and demanding of the men than is the male position of females. Also femminism is comming through strongly in more and more songs now as a result of this. Has anyone else noticed this or am I crazy?

I haven't noticed it. I stay far away from pop music.
Oh yeah, I've definitely noticed it. It's one of the reasons I stay far, far away from Pop music.

It might be due to who buys pop music. 14 year old girls probably don't want to hear a guy ragging them out for cheating or something. They'd much rather hear a cute guy singing them a love song, or a powerfull sounding girl venting their shared frustration on the cute guy who did them wrong.
I mostly listen to out-there indie rock... which is actually strangely simialar to pop, yet depressing and deep. The melody's aren't as cheap either. It isn't the all-out senseless depression and bland dissonance of common rock, either.

Pop music is for young teenage girls. These girls like to think of themselves as "independent women" and hence the theme or girlband songs. They also want, or rather, think they want, "nice guys", which is basically the image of all boybands. Question answered?

Most of that "modern rock" that you hear that is angry and depressed usually glorifies the male position, and to call that stuff anything other than pop would be fallacy.

Yeah but men asserting themselves is ok. Women are supposed to be quiet and make pie...

It's because boyband and girl groups are all dating each other, and the dudes are doin' the women wrong and the women are pissed and the men are asking for a second chance. I mean, if I had to make up an answer...
