We can't figure out why anyone would've left this dog at an SPCA in Jacksonville. She's so sweet, and a very good-looking example of her breed.
I'm sure other dog-lovers here will unsderstand why I'm so happy to have gotten her. Since I work at home, it's great to have her company.

Thanks. We got her from WeCare Rottie Rescue (http://wecarerottweilerrescue.homestead.com/) in Daytona. They were a lot more thurough than the SPCA would've been (where she was originally left on their doorstep). It was comforting to know they had their program down pat (we even had a volunteer from the Rescue over for a home inspection before we were approved for adoption).
It's kinda sad, as it's pretty obvious that her old family were hitters. She's slowly getting over being headshy. But she doesn't seem "damaged" otherwise. We're very happy with her, and she listens well.
Save she likes to be a brat and sprawl on the couches when she thinks we're not around, but that's no big deal. :D
We have it easy. The last dog they adopted out had been stabbed four times by his whackjob owner. His new owner will have a harder time convincing him that he can feel safe and sound around people.

It's nice to see someone else caring about neglected animals too.
My family adopted a doberman named Rusty from that same organization (I think). His previous owner left him tied to a fence with a bungee cord that had been on him so long his flesh had begun to grow around it. He was also very very malnourished and was resorting to eating sticks, which were embedded into the roof of his mouth so much. they had to give him surgery to remove the splinters and to remove the cord.
He was 85 pounds when they recieved him. Dobermans are supposed to be in the 110-120 pound range. When we got him, he was 95 pounds. Now, he's fully healthy and at 114 pounds (last time I checked), but unfortunately, the stick-chewing cost him some of his teeth.
And like your dog, he's such a couch hog :P We like to think that he thinks he deserves to be completely pampered. In a way, he does, but hey, even we want to sit down too! :D

We got our dog through the RSPCA and it's totally worth it. He was in there for 10 months before we got him (his 2nd time of being there, too) but he turned out just fine.
