My taste in music is.... controversial to say the least, but thats no excuse for nobody in Israel to have heard of my favourite bands! Please tell me that these bands do exist! (and why not, flame me for my music taste, or lack thereof:p:rolleyes: )

Semisonic (Closing Time, Secret Smile)
Stereophonics (Have A Nice Day, Bartender And The Thief)
Coldplay (Yellow, The Scientist)
Travis (Driftwood, Flowers In The Window)
The Verve (Bittersweet Symphony, The Drugs Don't Work)

Stereophonics and Travis are truly awful. Blandness is the worst attribute you can have as an artist. The Verve on the other hand are excellent.

Travis (Driftwood, Flowers In The Window)

A friend really loves those and they certainly aren't bad music. In fact, I think they should be liked by the ever growing indie populace?

I agree on The Verve, but I have to say I like quite a lot of The Stereophonics songs, and Travis are probably my favourite band, and have been for many years!

If you have Limewire or Kazaa, download Closing Time by Semisonic, its a great song imo.

I agree, except that the Verve are at least as bland as those other two...
but, I've read reviews that the new Stereophonic album is a lot better than their old stuff. They've always been hated by critics, so maybe they have stopped sucking for a second?

Coldplay (Yellow, The Scientist)
Ugh...one Radiohead is two two many. The others you picked are okay, though.

HAHA, most of my cousins in Israel listen to the most fabulous sappy Israeli pop imaginable. Its absoloutly great, I love the stuff.
You should find out about some of the local music, though. I particularly enjoy Teapacks, and their lead singer Kobi Oz is awesome.

A Thousand Trees, haven't got it. I only have Performance and Cocktails. I happen to like it!

And The Verve are far from bland. I haven't heard a single band yet that sound anything like The Verve.

No, no no no no no. Israeli music is crap, I'd rather live without music thanks!
Israeli rap is the absolute worst! I'll stick to English/American music thanks!

I've heard "all their songs sound the same" haven't heard any comparisons between them and Radiohead though :S
Then again, I can't comment, as I've never heard any Radiohead.

Listen to Radiohead's "OK Computer" album and you'll see what I mean.

These bands were mostly popular in the 1990s in the US. Which is odd. All but Verve only started in the 2000s. Stereophonics' debut was 1997 though... but only really made it with Performance & Coctails in 1999.

Edit... Ok, so I have Travis singles from 1997 too... but 'The Man Who' is from 1999, right?

Yes, the bands all exist. They're typical pop-rock bands.

And I don't care about anybody who wants to
try to tell me how good they are. The only way for me to
find that out is by listening to their music myself...which
I haven't found the motivation to do yet.

love love, kiss kiss

You have almost exactly the same taste in music that I did 5 years ago.

Kudos to you.

But er yeah, move to England, everybody's heard of those bands here:)

Okay, so Israeli rap is a bit sketchy, but some of it is downright hilarious, if you understand the language and context. As for all Israeli music being crap that's not true at all!! Of course much of it is, and they only play the shitty mainstream american stuff on the radio, but there are many artists that are really good. I could send you some. Its not surprising that they don't get much of the indie stuff.
Do you speak Hebrew? it does make a big difference.

No way! I definitely heard Semisonics "closing time" on the radio in Highschool ( I graduated in 1999) till my ears were bleeding! They woudln't stop with that song.

Sanctaphrax, I'm lining you up some songs. (but you have to keep an open mind, okay?) Even if they aren't utterly edgy and indie, they can still be lovely.

The Verve
But their lead singer, Ashcroft or something, kept on singing for a bit, did an album or two by himself.
