I just watched the movie "The Manchurian Candidate"

And I stumbled across a major plot hole. This is the new one, that is. And if you don't want the plot of this movie spoiled, then don't read on, but if you want something incredibly funny (those multinational corporations must be damn dumb to make this kind of a mistake) then you will read.
So, those who don't want spoilers are gone? Alright. Here's a summary.
So, the concept of the movie is that during the gulf war the son of a famous politician, raymond shaw, and his platoon (which includes Ben Marco) are abducted by the big-bad Manchurian Global corporation, they are mind controlled into believing some sort of big heroic escape from the iraqis story.
So, as a result of this, raymond shaw's political career launches. And through the various manipulations of his mother, he becomes the vice presidential candidate. His presidential ticket wins the election.
So, what big-bad Manchurian Global does is they re-mind control Ben marco (after a journey of discovery on his part) into killing the president-elect, so that raymond shaw can be President.
But...
Who knows what happens if the President-elect doesn't show up at inauguration? I'll tell you.
The Speaker of the House is sworn in, not the Vice President-elect.
Voila! The evil plan is foiled!

You learn something new every day, I guess. The Presidential succession thing is quite convoluted.

They should have just waited for him to be sworn in & then killed him. Problem solved.

WOw you really missed the point of that movie.
He kills the prez and vp elect because the speaker of the house rebrainprogrammed him and they blame it all on the manchurian company.
Watch it three or four more times you'll see what I mean.

Like... i thought maybe he shot through both of them, but i saw it quite a while ago and cant remember.
And the ending was a humongous dissapointment, though the music was good at the end.
Though I couldnt listen to that music for a long time after black tuesday 2004

Yeah the movie rocked :mp5: but it was still a very well done scary movie. Have you seen the director's cut? How different is it?

It looked worth seeing.
I saw The Merchant of Venice a couple weeks ago and loved it.
I also saw Der Untergang last weekend and while it was long it was well made.

Yep. Just ask Alexander Haig.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_Haig
"Constitutionally, gentlemen, you have the president, the vice president and the secretary of state, in that order, and should the president decide he wants to transfer the helm to the vice president, he will do so. As for now, I'm in control here, in the White House, pending the return of the vice president and in close touch with him. If something came up, I would check with him, of course."

The genius of the movie took a while to set in, you might not leave the theatre thinking "wow that was awesome" but give it a little time.

I know that the trailers have been very catching...I just don't know of a theater that's showing it near me.
Fortunately "The Austrians" are going to purchase it when it comes out on DVD, so I'll get to see it no matter what.

Fortunately sunny (shitty) phoenix has one good five-screen theater (and 50 lousy 18 and 30 screen ones).

I know the feeling, I know the feeling. My hometown (not my university town) has Cinemark and only Cinemark theaters. As such, nothing even remotely non-mainstream makes it.
If, at the time fixed for the beginning of the term of the President, the President elect shall have died, the Vice President elect shall become President. If a President shall not have been chosen before the time fixed for the beginning of his term, or if the President elect shall have failed to qualify, then the Vice President elect shall act as President until a President shall have qualified; and the Congress may by law provide for the case wherein neither a President elect nor a Vice President elect shall have qualified, declaring who shall then act as President, or the manner in which one who is to act shall be selected, and such person shall act accordingly until a President or Vice President shall have qualified.
Nope, No plot hole.
And he killed the VP elect and the VP's mother with the same bullet. The President was prefectly unharmed.

And on a follow-up to that, the Presidential Succession is as follows:
President George W. Bush
The Vice President Richard Cheney
Speaker of the House John Dennis Hastert
President pro tempore of the Senate Ted Stevens
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice
Secretary of the Treasury John Snow
Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld
Attorney General Alberto Gonzales
Secretary of the Interior Gale A. Norton
Secretary of Agriculture Mike Johanns
Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez
Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao3
Secretary of Health and Human Services Mike Leavitt
Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Alphonso Jackson
Secretary of Transportation Norman Yoshio Mineta
Secretary of Energy Samuel Bodman
Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings
Secretary of Veterans Affairs Jim Nicholson
Secretary of Homeland Security Tom Ridge
Note: Carlos Gutierrez was born in Cuba and is ineligible, and Elaine Chao was born in Taiwan and is ineligible as per Article II of the US Constitution. Also the Secretary of Homeland Security slot may be moved to right below the Attorney General pending legislation.
If I were the seceratary of Education I'd so be plotting an inane number of assasinations.
BTW, I just watched the movie Dawn of the Dead. That's some scary shit. Are you talking about the original or the MTV-ised remake? I don't really get scared by horror movies anymore, I've seen too many.
