Due to the explain liberal or conservative threads, I ask explain hypocracy. ot just one so-called side, but in general or political. Is it man-made or is it inherent in our nature if you will?

i think most of the problems are stemming from stereotypes and over-generalizations.

people like to categorize things.

they group people, and characterize the group by various traits of its members, but then the system sorta gets reversed, and they pick out a member of the group and assign the groups characteristics to the individuals.

i think that is the main problem, is that we arent talking about individuals, but groups of individuals, yet we are still trying to treat them as individuals for the sake of argument.

hmm... im not sure any of that made any sense:P

I was confused also until I understood that they meant hypocrisy. Spelling errors can really confuse people who do not speak English as a first language. For a time, I was thinking they were referencing some form of government like a Theocracy.

Hypocracy is a government ruled by a lack of something. Intelligence. Thus every government is full of Hypocrits.

The Libertarian thread didn't figure this out, though, and spelled it correctly. Harr. :)

Anyway, yeah. It's generalizations. And both of those threads were posted with the original poster knowing EXACTLY what he would hear; he did it just to goad the other side, though. It's annoying. Why have an intelligent discussion when you can just break everyone down into nice, tidy little groups and make fun of them?

Naturally, mankind's necessity to develop a practical conception of the world outweighs his desire for accuracy. It's better for a person to be ignorant and feel good about themselves, than knowledgeable and feel horrible. It makes life easier, easier for us to live, and easier for us to reproduce.

There's something called "categorical processing", which our brains use most of the time. We break things down into labels and categories, rather than actually fully-examining them. This makes for quicker, rather than more accurate, judgements. Speed is more important than accuracy in this case, though, because being a hypocrite, intellectually, does not hinder a person's survival. But thinking too slowly would.

Hypocrisy is when you judge those who you do not agree to standards you don't hold yourself or those you do agree to...

The way to get around that, as best one can, is to see how anything you are asking or stating applies to those that agree with you BEFORE you use it on those who don't agree with you, and vice versa.

I think hypocrisy is a result of not thinking hard enough. Most hypocrisy is accidental (I doubt many people would say that they are purposefully hypocritical), and often goes unnoticed. This leads to one of the things that irritates me the most--when someone is speaking, and repeatedly contradicts themselves, without noticing. I thusly think that it is man-made, as a result of a complex society that makes it almost impossible to not be hypocritical on occasion.
