My thoughts on the latest Doctor Who Episode

Brilliant! Simply brilliant! It has to have been one of, if not the, best episode of Dr Who I've ever seen. The story was great, the acting was great, and the whole mystery of the Doctor is wonderfully incomprehensible.

I really don't know why Christopher Ecclestone quit. The character didn't strike me in the slightest as being 'effeminate' or 'camp' as he says. I really think he's making a mistake.

I must say I felt sorry for the little blue alien too. He only went there to watch a planet get consumed by the sun and, through no fault of his own, got roasted to a crisp. Nasty.

What do others think?

Exploding 'faces'? It's supposed to be a kids show, that was a little 'gory.'
Why was the light coming from the other side of the door when Billie was leaning against it avoiding rays?
Where did the 'I'm the only Time Lord left?' come from...that was weird.

I really enjoyed it :D

shame Ecclestone is quitting tho - and I heard it was because he didnt want to be type cast not that he thought the role was camp?

i missed it last week, but thought this weeks was seriously cool! it was fun, quite well acted, the characterisation is excellent and the CG is good and modern. i look forward to watching the rest of the series :)

My eight-year daughter was cool with that. She thought it funny.

However I don't recall the Doctor advocating the death penalty before. Does anyone else know different?

Damn it! I quite forgot about it.

Ah, well, my friend will almost certainly have taped it or something.

I'm a bit worried about this talk of great acting and good stories and so forth... it doesn't sound very... ah... true to Dr.Who!

The new Doctor isn't for kids. It's much more adult themed, as you can tell by the various sly sexual comments Cassandra was making.

Good: I especially liked when the little spider robots, which appeared to be CGI appeared to bump into the camera lens while crawling through one of the ducts.

The pacing still seems a bit strange to me: I'm used to either the old TV stories being told in their blocks of 25 or 40 minutes with multiple parts per story or the Big Finish Audios which last about two or three hours. Trying to get a complete story into one 45 episode seems a bit'Buffy' to me, but at least there are a couple of multi-part stories coming up, and I'm glad to see that the story of the War from last week wasn't just a bit of padding (although I thought that it was a bit of an info-dump last week in the way it was presented).

As far as the story of the War goes... I think it is a fairly safe bet to say, given some of the hints and spoilers that have appeared, that it was the Daleks that destroyed Gallifrey. We shall see how it all pans out.

I thought it was pretty good too. I was told that Christopher Ecclestone was quitting because the show was getting 'too popular' for him. That's kind of strange, but I suppose when you have dolls made in your likeness, it can be kind of weird - maybe he couldn't handle it.

But he was the Second Coming of Christ! How does the Son of God expect people to react when He moves up the ladder even further to Dr. Who?

Anyways, I liked the episode. The maintenance girl was weird though... I thought she was an imposter or something. Meh. At any rate, it's all good; the tree woman was pretty hot for a plant. xD 5 billion years down the line, though, and Humanity has merely taken on other forms? I'd rather hope by then that we are masters of everything... but oh well! xD

The first episode seemed a bit slap-dash, but I guess that's only to be expected when you're trying to cram in all that character-introduction with a storyline in forty-five minutes. *shrugs*

The exploding face was rather nasty wasn't it? Can't say I felt sorry for her though.

And the programme is for kids. The producers said so, which I'm glad of. Constant continuity references would just be annoying (long scarves? Jellybabies?! Please, no!). Plus, it was scary! Children love to be scared.

I think the producers had the doctor not help Cassandra because he's supposed to have a 'dark' side to him, and Ecclestone did it really well I thought.

Again, why an earth did he quit?! We've all seen his previous acting, he shouldn't get typecast. Peter Davison's character in At Home with the Braithwaites was nothing like the fifth doctor, for example.

It does however seem like it may be the case that he was only ever going to do a single season, and that the plots of the rest of the season build up towards this. It appears that the news of him quitting was intending to be kept under wraps for a while yet, but the BBC had its hand forced by the papers.

Chris is quitting because of the tabloids doing a big thing about him "having an affair with Billie Piper".
