Is this right?

Heiligkeit

I am agnostic.

The Christians tried to convert me. One of them asked me to pray to the Christian God, and ask him to make me belive in him.

Is this right? Should I betray what I belive in and 'pray' to this 'God'?

Why not? I once wrote a letter to Santa Claus. Besides, if you're an Agnostic, then you have no beliefs to betray... you're just unconvinced.

You should probably try to find out more about other religions, and evaluate them logically before committing to one.

You can say anything you want, mere words will do nothing. God doesn't force anyone to believe in him/her. If that is what the evangelist asked you to do than they were an idiot.

No. However, look at it and consider if it would suit your worldview better and go from there. This is coming from another agnostic, of course.

Kind of ironic, given that Heiligkeit means "holiness"

Sounds like the usual type of reasoning certain folks like to give. "In order to believe... believe. Then you can believe!"

No, screw 'em. (Not literally -- unless you want to. ;) )

Just because they are brainwashed doesn't mean you need to humor them.

I may be wrong but last time I checked it wasn't just the Christian God but also the Jewish and Muslim God too. You should just go with what you believe in.

No, don't do it.

1) You will be betraying your beliefs because you will be indulging in an activity sanctioned by an organization with doubtful credibility from your agnostic perspective.

2) Group prayer is an indoctrination technique as it confers (as does any group activity) a sense of belonging and connection to others. Note that any feeling of brotherly love is due to the group activity, not any sense of 'godliness', despite what evangelists may tell you. You'd probably feel the same way after a good concert.

Tried to convert you eh? Were these people just on the street handing out pamphlets to everyone, or did they single you out and come to your house?

If it is the latter, did they choose a really shitty hour to knock on your door?

If this is the case, then you, my agnostic friend, have just been Jehovah'd!

Whenever people try to convert me i simply say "I'm sorry but i dont want to go to heaven, none of my friends will be there."

They usually are far too gobsmacked to answer back, especially if you shut the door in their face. :p :D

No, you should not. They're trying to convert you, and you really shouldn't pray to this God that you don't believe in.

This is what really gets me about evangelism, is that it's very predatory but also indoctrination no better than that of the Nazis in Germany. People shouldn't be forced into believing that which has no proof behind it.

I think that evangelism is very immoral, and people need to respect other people's views and discontinue infringing on their rights as a person and their rights to an opinion.

You need to goad and prod them more. Roll your eyes when they speak to you, even when they are just talking about normal things. If they bring up your eminant (spl?) conversion begin to hum The Battle Hymn of the Republic loudly.

Having been an evangelist who went out converting people, I must point out that that often doesn't work. It will just make them more determined to convert you.

Hi, first time here. (What's up, etc.)

1) Your friends sound like freaks with the whole "happiness coming from worshipping Him" bit
2) It's really all up to you to believe, if you let their propaganda get to you and sway you into believing it, that's kind of like raping your mind and ALSO (if you're on the God side) probably offensive to this so-called god if you believed in him/her/Him/Her out of peer pressure and not of your own free will.
3) If you want to be corny, is the faith in your heart? I mean, do you REALLY feel that, to you, there is a god? Because that's different from "SHOULD I feel there is a God?" If there really was a god, obliging to this god by believing in him/her sounds really disappointing from both sides. As if you're saying, "okay fine FINE! I believe in you. Geez."

But that's just my opinion in a weird mess of words.
