The Power System, whether divine or mortal

I was washing the dishes at work when all of sudden, I started thinking about the meaning of life, which after two hours brought me to thinking about God and power. I thought that perhaps, there is no ultimate God that rules over all the universe, but perhaps a never-ending power system.

Everyone has had a leader or someone above them once in their lives before, whether they like it or not. For example, I'll use the vague example of dust mites. If they could create a speech language or actually a civilization, they would probably view the person they ate skin from as the ultimate god, feeding them and such. However, during long absenses, are periods that they probably would call droughts to us.

Think about to us. What if the alleged God is just a normal being his or her kind, and there is another above them? I know this is confusing and sounds stupid, but for those who think outside the corporal restrictions of this vaunted world, think about it.
