WHo? and Why?

People who were in bands count, especially if they made a successful solo career afterwards and were the unofficial frontmen of the band anyway.

my favorite that immediately comes to mind is Rob Dougan. But i haven't heard any of zack de la rocha's stuff as of yet, so the jury is still out.

For me there is not only one...

Herbie Hancock, because he is always trying something new, pushing the envelope.

Although I don't really listen to him: Robbie Williams. He is extremely charismatic and has got some skills.

James Brown: The Godfather...

Pete Townshend (Spelling?) from Strapping Young Lad: Amazing. Both the band and himself. The only Death Metal, ah, the only Metal I like, and his solo projects have so many facets...

Björk, for the same reasons as Robbie Williams, but I actually listen to her music.

Johnny Cash: The Man in Black, the Original Goth, the poor man's poet.

It's kind of hard to beat The King in popularity. Sorry, Elvis dominates.

Sarah McLaughlan.

And, even more so, Johnny Cash.

You put Eminem in the same list as David Bowie and Elton John for greatest MUSICIAN? :headbang:
Am I the only one that sees the irony of that?

Hmm, a tough one.

It'll have to go down between Conor Oberst, Jeremy Enigk, Cedric Bixler and Ian Mackaye.

I think Conor Oberst would clinch it though, he's a f-cking genius.

Jerry Lee Lewis vs. Chuck Berry - Who would win?

10 years ago I was at a Chuck Berry concert, and he didn't want to play unless the piano player had been replaced, because the one that was there played like JLL.
No wonder when you consider the story of the two, but I think that's what you get for not travelling with your own musicians.
So we had to wait 45 minutes or so, until a replaycement had been found. I think I don't have to mention that the hardcore Rockabillies nearly trashed the place. It was a great concert, too.

Johnny Cash or Bob Dylan. I'm amazed at how poor the poll options are.

All of those choices are very shallow, minus elvis perhaps...but still

Classical - Michael Crawford. He has the greatest singing voice ever.

Rock - Yngwie Malmsteen. No one can grind an ax like this sick bastard. I love the guy.

Shallow! and you nominate Michael Crawford and Malmsteen!
Have you ever seen an episode of "Some mothers do 'ave 'em"?
If you want classical, then go with Pavaroti or Carlos Gardel
Rock: well that is always gong to be controversial but Stevie Vai, Jimmy Page and Eddie Van Halen could all knock the socks off Yngwie J.

Conor Oberst, Elton John, Dave Grohl, Ray Charles, and even Eminem (love him or hate him, he IS talented) are all good. I voted Bowie though out of that list. Personal fave is Oberst.
