As we all know - or should by now - the Pope can, and usually does, choose a new name upon his election to the Papacy.

What should the new Pontifex call himself?

Pesonally, I would prefer something modern, like Elvis, but I doubt this will happen, so I would be satisfied with a return to the Urban series, because that name rocked too.

Please give suggestions. Maybe if we get enough good ones, we can send them to the vatican for consideration.

Not like my last suggestion or anything, just if it were me that were becoming pope (highly unlikely seen as A. I'm about as religious as a bucket of soup B. I'm not catholic and C. I'm only 17) I would go for something like

Pope Lord grand master and over fiend of all he surveys

Just to make sure everybody knew who the top man in the eyes of god was, now kneel before me and bathe my feet in holy water.

Point taken... out of curiosity could the pope ever justify such a name? I'm not at all in the know when it comes to what he can and can't do so could he ever form the inhabitants of the vatican into an elite fighting corps and go for world domination? ...man I play the Papal states in vicky too much...

Ooh, good point. Since Vatican II was a good thing (in my humble opinion), it wouldn't be a bad idea to continue that tradition. I think overall John Paul II did an awesome job. It'll be a hard act to follow.

This is a moot point since there's a list they've been going by for centuries. BTW, there's only going to be two more popes before the church falls. The last one betraying the church.

I, however, think all of the popes from now on should be Polish(or at least not Italian). Seeing how JP did such a good job, he was Polish, and the Italians have been Pope WAY too many time.

Mexico on south is probably the strongest hold Catholicism has; it's certainly more thoroughly Catholic than, say, most of Europe. (France comes to mind... the churches there are all Catholic.... it's just that nobody gives a crap.)

How about we have another Leo? It's Latin for liion, and if you ask me, we need a pope that is willing to press the sticky issues. Specifically, I'd like to see a pope that is active in Muslim relations, and is working hard to reintergrate European and American Catholics.
