Every one under 25 get ready to assist Bush in spreading democracy and moral values to the rest of the world.

The information is from a "Liberal think tank" and though liberal myself, I tend not to trust info from anything called a [political group] think tank

Although, Bush does seem to be planning for a war in Iran, and that will mean the draft.

I say we have ourselves a coup-de-tat.

You know, as bad as this sounds, it wouldn't be unusual. And it would hardly be the evil you think it would be. Finland, a very strong advocate of peace, has mandatory requirements for military service as well as Israel. (not so peaceful) What do you think is going to happen when all of these slugs that have been eating up the military benefits in time of peace all start dropping out during our first real conflict? We still have requrements to meet. And if it's going to be mandatory, it's going to be mandatory. I personally would rather take the bonus.

being a concientious objector during a draft is perfectly acceptable.

Snicker... When liberal think tanks start basing their opinions on rumors spread to help others get votes, things get messy. Try this link to understand more:

No draft is coming, but it is nice to hint that folks are preparing for it in order to make them look bad.

A draft during a war more than half the population is against is much different then mandatory service during peace. If the US has draft we will see riots as bad or worse than the riots over Vietnam.

I hope you are right but I dont see how we will be able to continue our current operations overseas without adding more soldiers and marines to the ranks. We cant expect are troops to keep being deployed every year eventually they will reach a breaking point. We have to enlarge the military or pull the troops out. The only way to increase the size of the military is the draft becuase the military is not meeting its recruiting goals.

Incorrect. The National Guard and Reserves are not meeting their recruiting goals. The Military as a whole has exceeded goal in recruiting. The shortfall in Guard and Reserves is due largely to people not going into them after leaving active service or simply staying active duty.

Still, no draft would pass even if it ever made it out of committee. Plus the DOD is firmly against it, as is the President. Political suicide for anyone to try and take the bill to the floor...

Yep, "moral values" like killing thousands of innocent civilians, and lying about WMDs and number of people killed to get a war. Sounds moral to me. :P

If he can force send people to jail without a new trial because of the patriot act, I don't think a draft is out of the question.

It doesn't matter if we're against it, I'm against it and if there is ever a draft and I'm drafted then you'll see me where they choose to send me, assuming I'm not active service somewhere else.

People. There are 150,000 soldiers in Iraq and around 30-60 thousand more scattered around the world (South Korea in particular.) The US Army has 400,000 active soldiers and 700,000 reservests making over a million man army.

The hell is wrong with you people?

(Note: These numbers are rough.)

Yes, join the UN peace keepers that shoot unarmed civilians protesting French occupation(Ivory Coast) or civilians during a food riot(Burundi).....

Sounds moral to me.
