Why I try to be funny

Opinions will differ over whether I am actually funny or not. But I know that I am quite often making attempts at humour. Some people get angry with me over it at times due to humour in a 'serious' conversation, or a remark they don't find funny.
Why do I do it?
Because it's a reflex. A coping mechanism. One that is working very well. I suffer from a variety of not-so-fun psychiatric problems, and I am known to get quite depressed at times. Joking became my coping mechanism. Whenever I got down, I would say something funny or write something funny, because it's pretty damn hard to be sad when you're laughing. Eventually I started noticing the humour in all kinds of situations around me daily. And the humour moved from being a depression response into just being a part of my personality, something that makes me me.
And that's that.
I think youre funny
i also think youre pretty damn great
but if humour helps you then it can only be a good thing, whether somebody else thinks its funny or not

shucks ,
I have to settle for being almost funny. Cheers to someone who is actually funny.
Someday perhaps with significant additional effort and more than a few "rubber chickens" I to may achieve humor nirvana.
So three cheers to the chicky who is actually funny....
You are a chicky arent you?

I don't know what "Dude..." comment you are talking about.
So I guess it didn't offend me in that case. Good. ^_^

And Neo, you're plenty funny. Much funnier than I, at least.

Guess that part of my personality has kinda stuck around. For good or bad? :p

Just because they aren't THE God, doesn't mean they aren't A god. I didn't specify which god I wanted to bless humor.
Personally, I'd choose Hermes. *nod*

Since when is there only one god?
Meh, when I'm depressed, I constantly refresh this forum whilst listening to music.

When Im depressed, I begin diving into buckets of ice cream - the sugary combination is my only retreat from the swirling pit of despondence that swirls around like a swirly.

Neo,
I haven't read many of your posts but I can relate to what you have said.
I have honed my wit over the years and it's sometimes so dry that people who don't know me or my character think I am being serious.
This leads to all sorts of missunderstandings and soemtimes I upset people.
I can't change what I am any more, even though I do try hard not to be so 'toxic' with those I don't know well.
Just go with it girl, don't apologise in advance, don't change yourself, cope how you cope and accept that some will like you, some won't.
You are a chicky arent you?
And a rubber chicky at that.
