Which country you from?

Who plays this game? Which country are you from? How come when there are human rights abuse Swedish aid workers are abducted and not Norweigian ones? Is belgium held together by more then just a mutual hatred of Holland and France. Why have the Germans, supposedly unfriendly, shown me nothing but kindness but their cousins the are Swiss so dour and irritable? Why is America a super power when most Americans couldn't find their Fly buttons without an Atlas? Why Germans make fun out of Austrian, English make fun of Irish, Frenchmen make fun of Beligians and Indian Hindus make fun of Indian Seiks? But before answers to all these question first answer the poll!

Is belgium held together by more then just a mutual hatred of Holland and France

Belgium exists seprate from Holland because previously both were one country called "Burgandy" (Note, it also include Luxomburg). But in 1568 what we now call Holland went into armed rebellion, wanting to be a seperate Protestant state, the state we now call Holland/The Nethalands. Philip II of Spain attempted to crush the rebellion in its early stages with 30,000 troops. However to finance this campaign he needed more money. So he sent for a loan from Genoa (proberbly spelt wrong) in Italy (note: Italy was not one country then, just a series of prinipalitys). This loan was sent by ship to Burgandy by ship but in the English channel it was caught in a storm and had to go to an English port. Their William Cecil, one of Elizabeth I's chief advisors commendered the ships load and sent the money to the Dutch rebels. This didnt give any quams to the Genoese because it was a cash loan and they didnt care who got it as long as they got it back with interest. This naturally angered Philip a great deal and so he (In his Hapsburgian control of Burgandy. The Hapsburgs being a massive family who existed in the royalty of many European nations at this time) impounded all Engish ships in Burgandy and iniated a trade embargo with England. This was a massive economic blow to both countries. England needed the wool trade as it was their only export and Spain needed the wool as English wool was the highest quality wool in the world at the time and they used it to make clothes to trade with the Incas in the new world.

That makes us Belgians why? :D

The independance of Belgium starts when we were ruled by remaining Austrian house of Hapsburg. After the napoleontic war Belgium was donated to the Netherlands and Austrian Hapsburg got something else as reward. This new country was called the United Provinces of the Netherlands. Belgians weren't too happy with that: we are commonly known as the run-over state and everybody's second best conquered province. After a few reasons at which the major cities of Belgium were angered, we revolted. After some months of fighting Holland was forced to approve of Belgian independance.

What makes Belgium so unique is that we are seperated in two halves at which one side speaks French, the other Dutch. Right now things aren't too great between the two: Flandres (dutch) doesn't trust Wallonia (French) and vice versa. The only thing keeping us together is our royal house de Saksen-Coburg and the federal government. If the wrong parties manage to take control two new European states will emerge.

Is that likely to happen? If Belgium were to split, would the the french part join France & the flemish part join the Netherlands? Or would they become two new, separate nations?

When I look around me, i cant believe what i see,
It seems like this country has lost its will to live.
The economy is lousy, we barely have an army,
But we can still stand proud because Canada's really BIG.
We're the second largest country, on this planet earth,
and if Russia keeps on shrinking, than soon we'll be first
(as long as we keep Quebec)

The USA has tanks
And Switzerland has banks.
They can keep them banks,
They just don't amount,
cause when you get down too it,
You'll find out what the truth is,
Its not what you do with it, its the size that counts.

So people, will tell you that France is pretty large,
But you can't put, fourteen Frances into this land of ours!
It'd take a whole lot of work, It'd take a whole lot of work!

We're larger than Malaysia, we're most as big as Asia,
We're bigger than Australia and its a continent!
So big we seldom bother, to go see one another,
but we often go to other countries for vacations....

Our mountains are very pointy, our praries are not...
The rest is kind of funky, but man do we have a lot!
We got a lot of land, we got a whole lot of land!

So stand up and be proud, and sing out very loud,
We stand up from the crowd, because Canada's really big!

As to the Netherlands issue - nevermind about 2 new states, we're all part of one big, happy European family now, so really, what does it matter? Can't wait to tour Europe in the Summer and test out my European Citizenship in the 10 new states! Hungary, here I come!

I dont see what's wrong with that. Which country I from, lol.

The USA is wicked pissa. Problem is we can't have any military action without someone questioning our motives, I'm a Bushbasher but com'on, we're the only people who stand up for anything anymore. I dont see you questioning the leaders of Sudan or Iran. *cough*genocide*cough*(although Bush probably wont do anything there *cough*oil*cough*). God, and we're the only people who will even talk about North Korea and China. All Europe thinks about is their own well being, and to make sure they have a say in stuff even when they have no real power. An example being France. Why the hell are the on the U.N security council anyways? The Brits have always been good though, plus they actually get involved. Now, we may be laggin behind in a couple of things, but overall, in a war, we'd pretty much whoop your asses. But we're allies, so stop the fussing and a feuding, and lets get a lovin.

No, America compares nothing to the domains of Alexander the Great, or the ancient Egyptian, Asyrian, Roman, Carthaginian Empires etc all of which have fought battles against other armies which may actually have a chance of beating them. All Russians, Americans, Britons, French, Germans, Japanese, Chinese, and Australians are arrogant about their countries. Why? Because they are either great now or that they used to be great, or that they think they're great but they're not!

The list of countries I've put up is only a concise list. It's good to see some nationalism, otherwise the internalist commies would have colonized this world.

I don't think Swedish aid-workers are singled out above Norwegians... we have more than double the population of Norway though, so maybe we are easier to find? One or two prominant cases shouldn't make the basis for this assumption either.

Very true.

My theory is that the big European countries (France, Germany, Spain) discuss these issues in their own language on national forums?

Also, although English is clearly a very big foreign language known by Europeans... I think maybe we are better than some other countries and have higher coverage of proficient English speakers. That would also explain the quite high number of Dutch people on here, as there population is similarly skilled in English. Also explains the Finns and Norwegians. The strange thing is, I don't think I have ever bumped into a Dane on here! Where are they??! Maybe their lovely tolerant government with its Danish People Party friends has banned them from mixing with foreigners on the internet?

Obviously the person who created this thread isn't too bright in the grammar section.. "Which country you from?"

Hmm, which country I from...

I was using colloquial language but I except that you need to poke fun to make your life seem less pointless.

All Russians, Americans, Britons, French, Germans, Japanese, Chinese, and Australians are arrogant about their countries. Why? Because they are either great now or that they used to be great, or that they think they're great but they're not!
Um, no. I like Australia, but I'm not nationalistic at all.

The list of countries I've put up is only a concise list. It's good to see some nationalism, otherwise the internalist commies would have colonized this world.
I hope that's a joke.
And I think you mean internationalist.

I'm a woman, sweetie.

And since it's not a joke I will slink out of the thread. Then laugh.

Those people would be correct. We're arrogent for good reason though. It is undeniably the greatest country ever or that will ever exist.
Bullshit.
And I'm from Atlantis.
