The judges did what they could by LAW, that should mean something to you if you are active on this site, you know the whole deal with following the LAW. Shiavo's husband had POWER OF ATTORNEY, therefore, right or wrong, he decides what happens to his wife. The government did try to interfere though, only you're wrong they tried to interfere FOR your pressious Terri. Hell, Gee Dub didn't leave his Crawford ranch when a tsunami hi 90% of the Indian Ocean coastline, but when one woman might die with a little dignaty BAM he helicopters in to sign a bill to put her face in the national spotlight, I'm sure she'd of loved that! I agree, her suffering should not have been prolonged like this, but they should have at least had the decency to inject her with air or something (death row prisoners at least get a quick death). I personally don't see how people can say that it's the choice of a deity whose existence hasn't even been proven to first of all take away quality of life and then prolong the agony, but other people do see that. She was suffering, couldn't think or do anything for herself. She would never get better, she's just a burden on taxpayers and her death should be at the discretion of her husband, who I fully agree with. I commend the Supreme Court for refusing to rule to reinsert the feeding tube.

Now to what I have to say...

Well, first off, I don't think this is murder. Not in the slightest. Standard procedure for people in Mrs. Schiavo's condition is that a legal guardian be appointed to make any and all decisions for her. In the absence of a living will (which I HIGHLY reccommend that you all go out and get) it is this person's duty to make any course of action that they feel the person they are acting on the behalf of would want them to make. What Mr. Schiavo did was based on conversations that he and his wife had had previosuly... it is only a shame that they didn't write it all down, so this... this circus... this complete embarassment of the American people... would not be allowed to happen.
I am religious, and I do value life completely as a sacred thing that God alone can give and take, but then you must ask yourselves... what was it that was really keeping her alive? She was essentially brain dead, and were it not for the machines that she spent the last 15 years hooked up to, then she'd be dead anyhow. Now it becomes, when do we finally say "Enough is enough and now you can die with dignity" Spending almost 2 decades hooked up to machines and completely oblivious to the world around you is no way to live... it is prison... almost purgatory really, and I know of no human being that would willingly put themselves or anyone they love through such torture.
I do agree, however, that it was NOT in good taste for Mr. Schiavo to deny his wife, a Catholic, communion... it was disrespecting his wife's values and that was in poor taste.
And for Bush... this tool... the federal government has absolutely no damn right getting involved with this case. This is something that really should be left to the states because of it's extremely sensitive nature. I mean, come on.... you have to take a cue from the district courts in Florida and the Supreme Courts... this is NOT something for the federal government to handle, and the fact that Bush tried to push a bill through Congress for such a thing was distasteful as well.
Really, the moral of this story is, if you ever do make such decisions, make sure to WRITE THEM DOWN. Or you too could become the center of a media feeding frenzy, your family and friends ridiculed, your life put under a magnifying glass, and worst of all, your own wishes not being granted and really being put up for interpretation by people who have NO CLUE what you really want... write it down... becuase you are not guaranteed to make it to tomorrow... make your wishes known.

first of all, the unite states isn't becomming like germany, it's becomming more free all the time and is a power that needs to be stopped. also, you can't say that it's murder because they weren't alive for 15 years already. for something to be alive one of the requirements is to be able to support itself, not require the help of something else, so although their cells were technically alive, as one animal terry schaivo wasn't. god never existed, never had power over the court system and never will exist, so i don't see your point about the u.s. court. it's a good thing that the priests weren't let there too. and it's excellant that her husband didn't allow for catholic burial because cathlics are stupid money hungry fools, kind of like you, that deny truth and nature. about where we live, well, i know you live in the united states, and i live in yopenya(well, i'm a citizen of yopenya, but i don't live there) i sort of agree with how your against abortion and for the killing of criminals but for hospital patients, if they can't survive on their own the government shouldn't spend it's resources on them. actually, i think that most of the population of many countries should die.

The judges did what they could by LAW, that should mean something to you if you are active on this site, you know the whole deal with following the LAW. Shiavo's husband had POWER OF ATTORNEY, therefore, right or wrong, he decides what happens to his wife. First, just to get this off my chest, the Catholic church is the most corrupt religious organization in existance, and that is on a whole, I mean. I've seen quite a few nice churches in my lil piece of America. Don't believe me? Then you obvioudly don't read your history books or are blind. Who do you think supported Hitler? Don't flame, read. Aside from the occasional miracle, most people diagnosed in a PVS(persistant vegitative state) have less than a one percent chance of recovery after a year in said state. Why? Because in this state the brain dies. Bad news, if you lose a neuron, you NEVER get it back. Enough of your brain dies and you can't recover. So, her chances were so miniscule that would be the same as saying let me lie in bed for fifteen years and pray that I don't get an itch on my nose. If she was concious I'm sure she was misserable beyond beliefe. Would you like to be confined to bed, unable to move, eat, or even use the bathroom without two people there to help? I'm sure you would.

Second, the death may SEEM cruel, but the science goes like this. Situation: Routine surgery on the shoulder. Very painful to have a deep incision made in any part of you. How do they keep you from feeling it? They put you to sleep. Nothing to numb the pain, just something to make you unconcious. You hurt when you wake up, but your body doesn't recognise pain when you are not concious. If it did, most people wouldn't survive surgery because their bodies would shut down. Terri, God take her soul, did not feel pain. She was not concious. Same as with the surgery example, her body was unable to register the pain becasue she was not in a state to recieve it. Now, I know what you're thinking. She moved, made noises, even flinched when poked. Sorry, bucko, those reactions are reflex. It has been proven when a person is brain dead, in a PVS, etc... not cognisent, that they will still flinch if poked, cut, or hurt. Something like the heart, it'll beat even after brain death.

Now, I can tell you I'd have my plug pulled without hesitation even if I were concious. Two weeks of starvation to me seem preferable to fifteen years of being imprisoned in my own body, in a bed, at the center of a media circus. I guess you can live as a vegitable.
