As a foolish child, I think I have a responsibility to point out that this is kind of backwards. I mean, a thread aimed at one person, and others can respond in tg?

WHy not contact him via tg, and then discuss the conversation in a thread?

Brilliant. Thanks North Island.

We might as well start with the current. Then we can head to the beginning. I think it will work.

What is the population of Iceland?
How does the country make it's money? Is it's industry all based in fishing and geological surveys? If you were a teenager in Iceland, what career paths would you have before you?

There are Plenty of threads you can post in, just because you can't post here does not mean it is the end of the world. If you want to reply here first TG me or 'Foolsih Children' an wait until you get the OK from one of us.
The reason this thread is for only one person is because he wants to know the history of Iceland and if we let all the other people here post it will get off topic fast or be flooded with stupid questions.

The population of Iceland is around 290.000 but if you count the Icelanders living in other nations in the world then we are about 315.000.

The Fishing Industry is our largest source of income but because the worlds fish stock's are getting smaller we are know exploring other fields such as the Travel Industry to take over as the nations largest industry and source of national income.

As a teenager here you would have the choise of becoming anything you want to be. Police, Business, Law, Politics, President, Pilot, etc. the world is yours but it demands you pick a good path at a young age, a good education and a degree is key to a good life here.

What's the education system like? Compulsory schooling until a certain age? And are there plenty of higher education options like College and University?

The educational system in Iceland is divided into four levels:

Pre-school education (leikskóli).

Pre-schools are defined by law as the first level of the educational system, providing education for children who have not reached six years of age, at which point compulsory education begins.

Compulsory education (grunnskóli).

Compulsory education is organised in a single structure system, i.e. primary and lower secondary education form a part of the same school level, and generally take place in the same school. The law concerning compulsory education stipulates that education shall be mandatory for children and adolescents between the ages of six and sixteen.

Upper secondary education (framhaldsskóli).

Upper secondary education is not compulsory, but anyone who has completed compulsory education has the right to enter a course of studies in an upper secondary school. Students are usually 16-20 years of age. General academic education is primarily organised as a four-year course leading to a matriculation examination. The length of the courses in vocational education varies, lasting from one semester to ten, but most prevalent are four-year courses.

Higher education (háskóli).

There are currently nine higher education institutions in Iceland. Most of the institutions are run by the state. Private parties with state support run three institutions. Institutions of higher education differ in the extent to which they engage in research and the number of programmes of study offered.
