Ok, I recently got an assinment on Plates Tectonic in Science, and I have found it really hard to use Google for some of the things. So, I will just ask if any of you can help me answer these questions. Please note, I do not want the asnwers, I want notes on something that can help me get the answer.

1 Decribe in no more then 10 lines the Earthquake in Prince William sound Alaska in 1964

2 Name the Location of the Highest Tsunami ever recorded and explain why this Tsunami was so High

3 Describe in no more then 15 lines the use of the Lageos Satellite

4 Asses in no more then one A4 page how the behavior of animals may help in giving early warning for earthquakes and/or Tsunamis

5 The Boxing day Tsunami had a speed of 800 km per hour, explian how this speed was worked out.

Now, once again, I am not asking for the answers, but infomation you know to get more infomation on the asnwers themselves.

Thank you, Scooteb

Okay, I took the earthquakes class last semester, so I'm a little rusty, but here goes.

1) The Good Friday quake was a subduction quake, with the Pacific Plate moving under the North American Plate. Portions of the sea floor and land moved up to 10 meters vertically. It was the second stongest quake on record and created a tsunami which demoished the town of Valdez and showed up as far away as Chile. Anchorage was hit hard, due to a good chunk of the city being built on really soft soil. Portions of the city actually slid into the ocean. That ought ot get you started.

2) dunno

3) see #2

4) Some animals can hear the subsonic vibrations that show up shortly before an earthquake.

5) The speed of the tsunami depends on the ocean depth, salinity, etc.

i think number 2 was krakatoa. it was high because a rather large island, for lack of a better word, exploded.

Distance between waves.

Or was that how to find wave frequency? God I'm so tired.
