A company called Zion Oil has decided that all that fancy modern science doesn't mean anything. The best way to find oil is to consult a book written long before any oil wells or cars had been invented. Zion oil plans to drill in N. Israel for oil that they claim is prophecied in the bible.

The oil business, like any prospecting venture, draws its share of... well... people who make their decisions based on emotion or a gut feeling rather than hard data.
Oil in N. Israel would be quite amusing, really, since the topography is completely wrong for it. It's like trying to drill for oil in the Rocky Mountains-you can do it, but it don't mean you'll find anything.
These guys have clearly forgotten that the Bible is a puzzle, an' god doesn't reward people for being stupid.

One of the great things about capitalism is that people like this are able to spend their hard earned money on gut shots like this. More power to them. If they want to base all their business ventures on the Bible, I'm sure unearthing the ruins of the garden of Eden would be quite lucrative.

(6 months later, the company tries to save face by planting barrels of oil, in the middle of the desert)

OH! THIS OIL!! ALREADY IN BARRELS, PRE-DRILLED! IT'S A MIIIIIIRACLE...!! GOD HAS BLESSED US!!

Ouch. Again, superstition. My opinion is that, after all, only the heretic geologists who know where and why oil has formed millions of years ago can actually find it... :p

When they start raking in God's personal oil, then you'll suffer *shakes fist at unbelievers*

As the oil runs out, it's going to be as good a method as any...

That's very cute. Never worry, capitalism will get rid of the religious nuts when they find themselves ten years from now with $500 million dollars of debt.

Deuteronomy XXXIII, 24: “Most blessed of sons be Asher. Let him be favoured by his brothers and let him dip his foot in oil.”

how stupid can this guy be?

does he know absolutely nothing of the times during which his religion was founded?

that's not the same kind of oil, buddy.*

and just think: that's £3.6 million that could be spent on something that actually helps people.

like perhaps: an alternate energy source! wow! who'd-a thunk it!

* tho, it would be kinda funny if they drilled into 300 million barrels of vegetable oil or something :p

just to play devil's advocate for a moment, what do you think would happen to america's relations with isreal, if a large group of white christians actually found oil in it?

Relations would get alot closer. Don't you think we'd rather buy our oil from a friend?

Well, they would probably grow much stronger, maybe even annexation for "protection".

"Mr Brown’s reliance on biblical prophecies may seem far-fetched but he may yet have the last laugh. Recent scientific studies have shown a “high probability” of a commercial oil find of up to 500 million barrels — enough for 15 years’ production — and there was a major oil find further south last year."
