I'm going to his memorial carving tomorrow. People around the world that have a big influence on us in our neighborhood get a lot of recognition over here when they die. There's this huge wooden block near my friend's house where we carve their names. Last one we added was Yasser Arafat. Now we're going to add Johnnie to the list.

"We were praying for him then, and I still am," Simpson said.
Indeed. Best keep praying for him, OJ. The chance of any lawyer, let alone Cochran, getting into Heaven is pretty damn slight.
And I'm sure, after all the good you've done OJ, God will listen to your requests a bit more than other peoples.

On or off this forum, respect is a factor. I see that many don't have respect for the dead and the courageous.

Courageous? He was a lawyer. That was the extent of his contribution to society. He didn't do anything that required any bravery on his part, the ultimate outcome of O.J.'s trial, and any other trial for that matter, didn't affect him in the slightest. And I don't respect people for dying, you'll find it's not all that hard to do.

If they lived a good life, I respect them. But just respecting someone because they're dead is bullsh*t. I should respect Hitler, Uday and Qusay Hussein, and Stalin because they're dead?

Oh, and I respect the courageous.

As long as they're alive you don't need to respect them. I don't celebrate death. When a man, woman, or child dies, you never know what becomes of them in the next life, therefore I won't judge them after they're dead. I'll judge what they did when they were alive.

If a politician commits an act of greatness, would you not respect him or what he did?

If a doctor performed a miracle and saved a life no one could save, would you not respect him or what he did?

A lawyer's job is to defend and uphold the law, is that not respectable?

Are all these people being paid for what they do? They receive compensation in the form of money, rather than respect, for their work. He made a lucrative amount of money off his defense of O.J., who was guilty according to any reasonable person familiar with the case. The glove planted, with his blood? Please...Regardless, my dad is a lawyer, and I respect him not for what he does at work, but for what he does on his own time.

"Greatest Defense Lawyer"? Yeah, if lying, cheating scum who knew their client was guilty and still set him free is your definition of a "Great Defense Lawyer". It's thanks to people like him and the ACLU that people have no respect for lawyers anymore.
