Pornography: An attempt at an intelligent discussion (But I'm not holding my breath)
As a teenage male not suffering from any mental diseases, I consider pornography to be one of Gods greatests gifts to the Universe. It's right up there with sliced bread and electricity. Simply hours and hours of fun. It's entertaining, instructional, and sometimes it's pretty darn funny. But, do we ever consider what it's like for the people who make pornography?
In regular movies (and television) it's become almost standard for people to associate actors and actresses with the characters they play. If you're walking down the street and you see an actor one of your first thoughts is "Oh, look, it's Cordelia from Angel." or "Hey, wasn't that guy in Die Hard?" maybe even "Dude, I loved him in The Wrath of Kahn!". It's only after you get over your initial shock at seeing a celebrity that you begin to recall that persons real name, what they act like in real life, and what they've done recently (besides acting). For most actors it's not that big of a deal, probably a little irritating to be always known as "That guy on that TV show that used to be that channel with the stuff" but not very detrimental to their lives. I mean seriously, I doubt even todays public could think you're really a robot sent back in time. Plus, most actors have at least a tiny bit of range. They might always be in action flicks, but they switch between being the good guy and the bad guy. They might sometimes do an emotional movie or a comedy. It's hard to have only one view of an actor, since they've often been good & bad, funny & serious, a man & a woman (Hey, some movies are just weird). But with pornography it's a whole different story.
Most porn movies are about one thing: sex (duh). Whether they're pretending to be serious or pretending to be funny there's still that one theme running through it: sex. So, the actors are all associated with one thing: sex, and the thing is that it actually is believable that the actors have sex a lot. It's a normal part of real life (Unlike prehistoric lizards breathing fire) and it's easy to associate it with real people. So, when you see a porn star walking down the stree you think "Hot damn, she was in..... (Okay, I can't think of any titles right now)" then you think "Man, I could probably get with her! She has to be loose!" Now, I'm the first to admit that the evidence does point to porn stars not exactly being puritanical in their daily lives, but the evidence in Junior points to Arnold being able to get pregnant and that's just unlikely. Just because they're in porn doesn't mean that they're willing to sleep with every single person who walks by them in the street. But society views them as such. No matter what they're like in real life, all porn actors are believed to be nothing but nymphomaniacs in reality. Admit it, you've thought it yourself at least once.
Anyway, I don't really have anything more to say along these lines, but I just want you to think about it. Whatever your personal opinion on pornography is (And I know many people who object to it whole-heartedly) don't automaically transfer those opinions to the people in pornography. They're normal people who act normally, and treat them as such.
There was a documentary on MTV (I think it was MTV, anyways) about the porn industry, and it had interviews with various porn stars past and present, and a few of them mentioned that very thing...
One of them put it (and this is highly paraphrased), that it seems as though most people think that they are entitled to sex, or sexual contact, from these entertainers... She talked about how no matter where she went, or what she was doing, guys would assume it would be ok to grab her and such...
So yeah, it apparently is a problem...

Most people have problems seperating fantasy from reality. But this isn't just aproblem in the porn industry. How do you think the guy that played Spock feels every time he steps out of his door?
Now, generally, the difference is that they don't touch the stars. Generally. But sometimes rabid fans or even casual consumers will go out of their way to meet, greet, and fondle any star they see. It's been ingrained in them from the time they were children.
I love pornography. My wife doesn't see what's attractive about pictures or movies so much. She's more into stories and such.
But I wouldn't want to fuck Jenna Jameson or any of the other men/women in pornography for at least two reasons. 1) I am very devoted to my wife. 2) (and EVERYONE who watches porn has thought about it) They probably have at least one type of venereal disease that I wouldn't want to take the risk of catching and, by proxy, harming my wife with.
Fantasy is good. This culture where we have taught people to overlay fantasy onto reality is not.
Actually, #2 is steadily becoming less and less likely. In recent times the government (At least the US government) has been making an effort to bring the Adult Entertainment Industry out of the gutter it has fallen into and has begun to make sure everything is going well. Many laws have been passed making effort to curb the spread of disease, including regular blood tests and mandatory protection, and make sure that production methods don't expose any of the actors to the dangers that might occur.

I think some pornstars have issues. I was watching a video of a girl having a dick shoved down her throat, her eyes were red and watering, she looked sick.
And I thought: I wonder what she's thinking right now?
"I should've stayed in the military."
"If only I hadn't dropped out of college."
"I hope he doesn't pinch my nose closed. I hate it when they fucking do that."

I think most would argue that pornography is a-ok here in this forum. As long as its not viewed by children but consenting mature adults.
Whats most fucked up, is parents who watch pornography with their children in the same room and then had sex whlie their children are running around.

At the risk of sounding completely depraved, because that's not where I'm going with this, historically, do you really think people went sneaking off to hide in the bushes or do you think they just had sex right there in the tent/cave/cabin with the kids right next to them. How do you think kids used to learn? There was no nosy sex ed teacher around to make up for embarrased parents.
And from what I've heard it's not some porn stars, it's pretty much all of them that are messed up. Ask any psychologist what causes that sort of thing.

Actually I feel sorry that the woman feel they have to exploit themselves, I'd probably throw a dollar at them if I saw them in the streets. Straight porn to me just look like the woman's being violated, it's like she's had ten guys go through her that day, she really isn't enjoying it.
It's plausib;e to think that protitutes would get into porn, but this is most likely because the only way they know to make money is by selling there bodies. There not a thing to be admired, but pitied.

Eh ya love it or ya hate it lol. I inparticular don't hate it lol. I'm somewhat not the greatest supporter of porn as the trivialisation of sex seems to make people think every gay man is easy. Which then leads to a stream of predictable one night stands in my case.
Many lesbian pornographies are straight woman who have no option but to go against there natural sexuality and sit there moaning and groaning over something that does not actually interest them. You won't find as many straight men doing that for sure. Nonetheless, don't watch porn, get sex, if you can't get sex then watch porn, but make sure its male gayporn ha!
To conclude, fake tits, fake faces and fake sex is not hot.

Porn flick filmed at uni party
From correspondents in San Francisco
March 29, 2005
A CALIFORNIA university, once ranked by Playboy magazine as the top US party school, is probing a fraternity over an event where a hard-core sex film was made.
California State University Chico had suspended the 25-member chapter of Phi Kappa Tau while it investigated the party at which professional porn actors were filmed having sex last October, said school spokesman Joe Wills today.
Shane's World, a Southern California maker of adult films, including ones featuring partying college students, provided four female and two male actors for the film, a spokeswoman said.
A trailer of the toga-themed film, on sale on DVD for $US24.95 ($32.46), appears on the filmmaker's website. Three Chico State students had sex on film, said Shane's World spokeswoman Nicole Henderson.
"On Friday we suspended the fraternity," said Mr Wills. "We're trying to gather information as fast as we can right now."
The fraternity chapter would not be able to participate in school events until the university concluded its investigation, which stemmed from a rumour circulating on campus, said Rick Rees, a student activities official.
The fraternity chapter could not be reached for comment on the film, the most recent scandal to hit Chico State.
Earlier this month, police arrested students in connection with the death of a student during a Chi Tau fraternity hazing ritual.
Chico is a college town in a rural area of northern California.
Ms Henderson said the film company was contacted for its films by college students, who had to verify they were older than 18 and sign release forms to be at parties and appear in its College Invasion series of films.
"We bring the porn stars and the cameras, and we just film," she said. "We get hundreds of letters every month from college students wanting us to come out to their schools."
Shane's World had made six College Invasion films since 2000 and was in talks with university students for future films, Ms Henderson said.

I feel that I need to interject even more controversey into this argument, via RELIGION.
As a network administrator one of my tasks with my current employer is to monitor the systems of employees that have internet access to the internet to make sure they are not fooling around.
I have noticed a tendency for the most openly religious employees to download the most porn. My boss and president of the company is a very Christian man and encourages displays of religion in the office. We had one gentleman, who is now fired, that decorated his office with crucifixes, a picture of Jesus and several 'inspirational' poster given to him by his Baptist Minister. One night, when he thought no one would ever see what he was doing, he installed Kazaa and downloaded nearly 10 GB of porn, including animal and child porn.
We had another former employee, who actually went to my bosses church and actually would sit in the lunch room and rant and rail about 'sin' and 'perversion' . Not only were copious amounts of pornography found on his system , he also turned out to be cheating on his wife.
Those are two examples. I have noticed that 100% of the people fired for inappropriate use of their company computer (i.e. pr0n!) have been conspicously religious.
My question is: Are religious people more prone to secretly view pornography? Maybe because of repression? OR are these dirty filthy perverts attempting to mask their perversion with relgious paraphenalia thinking they can throw me off the trail?
For the record. I am a filthy pervert, and yet I have no porn on my work computer, I know two other filthy perverts (I have lunch with them) and they too are clean and clear.
So, what are your thoughts on religion, and pornography?
OR are these dirty filthy perverts attempting to mask their perversion with relgious paraphenalia thinking they can throw me off the trail?
This would be the correct answer pretty much universally, at least it would seem so from my experiance.

You've made an amazing observation-something many of us usually arent in a position to witness. I dont know what that deal is. I'm Christian and I have no problem with pornography-within what I feel to be reasonable. Absolutely no underage or animals, just what in my opinion to be normal. I dont think God hasa problem with that.
There is a time and place for everything-work certainly isnt the place for pornography.

You'd be suprised what people will put on their work computers.

I don't think they're trying to trick you. I think they are trying to control a problem that they believe they have and is exacerbated by the guilt they feel when they do it. As any red-blooded teenage boy knows, if you're not supposed to do it, it becomes a little more exciting. Well, some of them go out and get it out of their system and some, the more religious type, generally don't. They always have these urges to do things that they can't do and I think it festers. Hence, a guy looking at stuff in the middle of the night when no one is looking because he feels caught between a rock and a hard place. (no pun intended)

LizzyHippies and others - yes, actually, Eutrusca is right: the overwhelming majority (c. 92%) of women in the porn industry are people from impoverished backgrounds who were sexually and mentally abused in their youth, believing themselves not worthy of making money in a respectable fashion. Rather than criticise them, we ought to be doing something to help them get out of such vile circumstances.
Don't believe me? See the work of MacKinnon, Bryson, Janeway, Flanagan, Bates, Gilligan etc. Plenty more to back the above up.
I saw this documentary where they interviewed a director and his porn star wife and even she agreed that most were sexually abused as children and hated their bodies/didn't care anymore. Seriously most women would not think being filmed having unemotional sex was fun. The others, girls running to Hollywood offered an 'acting role' and think they can work their way up...and soon learn they can't.
BTW, I'm a famous film director. Would you like to come to my mansion for drinks and to discuss my new movie?
So, what are your thoughts on religion, and pornography?
I like religious pornography.

I think most would argue that pornography is a-ok here in this forum. As long as its not viewed by children but consenting mature adults.
Whats most fucked up, is parents who watch pornography with their children in the same room and then had sex whlie their children are running around.
WHAT the HELL are you TALKING ABOUT?

Why do so many Feminazis say "Oh no, the women are being exploited, blah blah blah, blame the wicked men"? Those women are willing to sell their dignity. It's their own problem. They aren't be forced to sign the contract, to take off their clothes, to go at it. If they felt like it, they could say, "No, I'd rather work at a car wash," or "I'd much prefer to take inventory in a large company." Even the poorest woman could probably get a job flipping burgers and work their way up, from Burger Flipper to Cashier to Customer Relations to Manager.
can someone tell my why it is undignified for a woman to act in a porn movie?
sure, if she is coerced or doesn't want to do it...but has it occurred to anyone that women may actually like doing it?
btw i'm not a porn star ;)
just someone trying to see past the usual phrases which are hauled out in response to certain situations

BDSM, of course: haven't you seen "Pope-on-a-Rope"?
but has it occurred to anyone that women may actually like doing it?

Ah, porn. Video friend of teenagers and men in dirty macs alike [/stereotyping]. Seriously though, I can watch some porn, but some of that kinky stuff is just twisted. Why anyone would be into, say, bestiality or fake-rape porn, or even bukkake, is just beyond me.
As an aside, what's the general consensus on Hentai?

I don't.
Apologies if this has been said before, having not had time to review the whole thread - but I think that pornography desensitizes people and perpetuates harmful beliefs about women and men

Actually I feel sorry that the woman feel they have to exploit themselves, I'd probably throw a dollar at them if I saw them in the streets. Straight porn to me just look like the woman's being violated, it's like she's had ten guys go through her that day, she really isn't enjoying it.
You see female porn stars interviewed on Laid Baire, on Bravo, and none give that impression.
Although some probably do just do it for money, most to me sound like they do it because they just like having sex a lot (and to be a pornstar, they must really like being done a lot), and enjoy doing it in front of a camera - nothing degrading about it. Maybe with more than one guy, or girl, and over and over and over again. A man does it and hes a c**t, a women does it and shes being taken advantage of; damn you anti-porno people.
Is there a limit before it becomes abuse or something? It's not like they're forced, and besides getting an STI, I can't think of any drawback to being a pornstar.

They can have kids in that because there is no law on cartoons?
Hentai is very very very funny.
The tentacles are just wierd.
I don't see how anybody can find it erotic, but I guess there's something for everyone.

Did you even read what I wrote about girls thinking they can work their way up into the regular film industry? I guess not. And there's only so many burger joints in Hollywood, they're not that popular there.

I was talking U.S.
England still has a lot of censorship laws, don't they? As well as Canada? I'm just shooting from the hip, not 100%
I don't think we do in England.
Im 18 and if I felt like it could go into any newsagent and buy a hardcore porn magazine or video/dvd. Is that what you mean by censorship? Or how graphic they are allowed to be?

It's hardly a "wild accusation." It's well-established that early sexual experiences, whether rape or not, tend to make individuals sexualize most relationships. Ask a psychologist.
What is wrong with "sexualized" relationships?

Obviously sexualized romantic relationships are a good thing, but I would think it's hard to argue that sexualized relationships with parents, kids, siblings, co-workers or little boys (ala Michael Jackson) is a good thing.

Testosterone is a horrid thing.
And the female supremacist (I'm not going to denigrate the good name of true feminism) reveals herself with these five words.
They have this look in their eye, it disgusts me honestly. They are unimportant in heterosexual porn, a thousand men will put there hand up to be in porn before a woman. Testosterone is a horrid thing.
So what is it about "teh evil testoster0ne" that makes men, who are inidentally lower than worms, want to be in porn so much?
I guess you are going to say something like "women only like sex with men they love", which as we all know is bullshit.
