This is the 4th time I try this I think.
Are any Danes here? People from Denmark that is.
I am looking for any Danes that have a good understanding of their history, Danish history. I would like to talk to a Dane about the Icelandic-Denmark issue(s). 1918, 1944, Kalmar Union etc.
I am Icelandic.
P.S. If any 'non-Danes' here know this history please feel free to post.
Do not post if you read a Danish book once, read a book that takes place in Denmark (Hamlet etc.), have been to Denmark, know a Dane etc.

Okay, whatever.
This is now a 'learn Icelandic history' thread. What do you want to know?

Does Iceland have any history that doesn't involve fish in some way?

You heard that from a very dumb person didn't you?
Yes, most of our history does not involve fish.

Yeah, I just realised where you are from, Breecity.

Cheese comes from cows (mostly).
Your fellow citizens are cows, they don't speak English they go "moo!" :D :p

North Island,
First things first: I've never read Hamlet. Never really been a fan of any of Charles Dickens' work.
Secondly: I'm a bit Danish. My mother is Danish, and she has a huge extended family over there. I live in England, but I think of myself as Dansk when it suits me. I tend to visit Denmark a few times a year.
Recently I have become interested in Danish and Scandinavian history - searching the internet during lunchbreaks or spare moments. I know absolutely nothing of Icelandic history, nor Greenland.
However, I would love to learn something. That is, if we can rescue this thread.

Bjork is from Iceland, right? What do people think of her there?
Is it true Iceland is very green, while Greenland is full of ice?

Been in Kalmar. Know something about Kalmar Union but much more about Calamari Union.
Im Danish and have a fairly good understanding of our history. However, I dont know much about the Kalmar union other than its there. No Danes know anything about it... Nobodys really interested in it.
I didnt know denmark subsidiced iceland. Again, nobody knows. I´ve been to iceland and i´ve been in an icelandic classroom, and you´re right: I dont understand anything you try to say in danish.
This is not an issue in denmark. I think you will the reason for the danish support in your own governemt. Because as I said: Its not an issue here.
If you´re upset over the support og just want it removed, feel free to do so. If you speak danish or not is really not interesting (just as long as you speak english). I will pm you my bank account in a minute so you can start paying the money back :p
No really, this is not an issue to danes. We dont regard you as a part of denmark but as an independent nation. Its not an issue to our politicians either, so the reason for any connection between us must be a result of your own policies...

I'm Danish. We want you back in the Danish Commonwealth. You pricks left us in 1944 when we were occupied & couldn't do anything about it. We also want Norway, Sweden, the German-occupied Island of Rügen and duchies of Lauenburg & Slesvig-Holsten, Estonia, England, Normandy and the US Virgin Islands back. And Switzerland, too.
Please?
