In all the confusion about the future of lebanon they've decided to fall back on the one thing they do best, attack christian neighborhoods. www.kentucky.com/mld/kentucky/news/world/11245946.htm
My opinion is that Hezbollah and other pro-Syrian factions are trying to make the case for continued occupation of Lebanon by threatening another Lebanese civil war, and doing so at the expense of the Christian minority, which has always been the whipping boy of Arab Islam.

That's messed up shit. I really think Bush was too strict with Syria, although I admit I don't know too much about it, other than what I've read recently. It's terrible how those Christians or any other Christians in the Middle East are persecuted. Those people have a right to use that word too. And I honestly have a lot of respect for Christians in those regions. It takes a lot of guts to stand up for what you believe in, like that.

My father is imitating the whining attitude of Jews (in his opinion). My brother and I are really getting a kick out of it. It's funny even though I don't support his intolerance of the Jewish faith.

The world has been too lenient on Syria. They friggin stole Lebanon from the Lebanese for 30 years or so... besides they're a nasty one-party dictatorship that oppresses dissent and assists the insurgents in Iraq.
I'm glad theyre "leaving" Lebanon.
It's the classic story of the world. When you have a problem in society...blame it on someone else, preferably a minority, attack with grand fervor, and then claim you did it all in the name of the people/society/state/nation/God/Allah/Yahweh/Buddha/Vishnu/Stalin...

Yeah, the Swiss Guard employ behind the scenes guys like you just mentioned. The men in the classical outfits are there for traditional, as well as security reasons, as they are armed with more modern weapons nowadays.
Here's how I think they decide.

I saw some one back their blaming Britian for Isreal, ill think youll find we meant of to be an amalgamation state where all the jews after ww2 could live *with* the current residents, however they dint like that plan and drove most of them out at the point end of a tank, funny how the most repressed people in history became the repressors, history is not without a sense of irony it seems.
Any who the mess that the middle east is in, is becuase the one failure of colonalism which pretty much drew the countries up over a night of brandy by the fire. Well it wasunt meant to end, as long as the friendly british man and the less friendly french man, was in changre of your arabic country you had some one else to hate and try and blow up other than the other closets relgious group, and had it not been for world war 2 this would probally be the case today, but take away the common enemy and his police force and well its been a free for all ever since. The whole regions a crappy mess, Arab's killing Jews, Jews carpet boming arabs, arabs killing africans, africans killing arabs, then arab christians killing arab muslims.

The US backs Israel over Palestine because Israel is a democratic and open society, while the Palestinians have up until very recently been lead by corrupt, unelected terrorist leaders like Arafat. Also because Israel is surrounded by enemies moreso than any other nation in the world.

Yeah. Let's not forget Israel siezed all of the Sinai peninsula at the end of one war. Let's also not forget that they were nice enough to give it back. I'd have kept it. It would have made for a larger and therefore more easily defended Israel, once you kicked out all the muslims of course.
Almost anyone could destroy the muslims in a war. They haven't been able to get their military act together during the 20th century and the trend seems to be continuing into the 21st.

Funny isn't it, the reaction when the tables are turned?
Minority groups have always been oppressed, and in the current world order always will be.
after Sept. 11, a Sikh man got shot in Canada because they thought he looked like a Muslim. Hitler ostracized Jews, gypsys, Jehovah's Witnesses and other minorities. The US, for a large portion of its history, has hurt minority groups.
And the first responses on this forum from white people are "let's go blow them up"
How is that any different than the Al-Qaeda rationale behind 9/11?

The difference here is that none of these people is going to fly an airplane full of innocent people into oh, let's say Mecca during the haj just to get back at muslims. They're just talking to blow off some steam.
The islamofascists have proven that their threats are not just talk.
Also I think most people on this board know the difference between the average muslim and the islamofascist terrorists who attacked us.

Oh, I'm not saying anyone here is going to go blow themselves up. But then again, the majority of Muslims don't do that either, just the crazy hard-liners.
Besides which, Americans are the world's reigning superpower. They don't feel the same kind of systematic discrimination. If the situations were reversed, I dare say that any country could produce the crazies.

I agree. The US retaliated against OBL in Afghanistan not Islam. Sure, following 9/11 they attacked Muslim countries but the target definitely is not Islam in general.

You do realize that the Six Day War was a pre-emptive strike by Israel against the Arab armies which were massing for an attack on Israel's border of course.
Both sides share blame. Neither one is any more "right" or "justified" in it's claim of ownership of the land.

Where do muslims feel systematic discrimination? Surely not in their home countries, where they're the majority. Nor in the USA where they're among the wealthiest and most well educated minorities well represented in academia, science and engineering, and business. Nor even in Europe.

Hmm what I meant by decending into violence was martyrdom. When you die, without fighting or fear of death. Like what G.K. Chesterton said was rebellion against the world. They may kill my body, but they can't kill my soul. Love and fearlessness usually ends in death.
