So Ariel Sharon is saying Israel is going to build 3,500(!) new units of housing for settlers in the West Bank completely surrounding East Jeruselum completely pissing on the supposed "road map to peace" which he signed on to and all the international community can do is make measly little complaints that Israel "fullfill its obligations" and but take no concrete measures to stop them.

It is clear now that Sharon is nothing more than a treacherous thief who only intends to give up the tiny overcrowed Gaza strip so that he can continue massive expropriations in the West Bank land without oppostion. If the Palestinians abandon their ceaefire pledges and start raining rockets down on Israeli towns again who can seriously blame them if it beomes clear that Israel will not cease its rapid expansion of its settlements and peace will gain nothing for them?

It is clear now that talk means nothing. Is it not time for Europeans to seriously consider sanctions against Israel? You can't expect america to do anything while Congress and the Senate are under the thumb uber zionist AIPAC lobby. It should be obvious to anybody now that Israel has no intention of any sort of final peace deal with the Palestinians and that only strong international pressure against Israel will force them out of the West Bank.

Telling Europeans to grow balls is offensive since their bodies end at the bottom of their ribcages.

Anybody who has read my posts knows that I defend Israel at every opportunity, but this seems couterproductive. Israel shouldn't take more land out of the West Bank if they're to negotiate a two state solution.

Ahhh, with this kind of clear, rational debate, we shouldn't have any flaming at all on this thread.

I don't know if you are being sarcastic since the title was sort o' flamey but yeah... I really don't know where Israel even thinks they are going with this. If they surround East Jeruselum, another quarter million Arabs are going to be stuck inside Israel which is only like 77% percent Jewish now. Sooner or later Israeli Jews going to find themselves a minority in their own country if they keep this up.

First, the inhabitants of East Jerusalem are already citizens of the State of Israel, if they so choose, so the demographic argument here is irrelevant.

Though this move seems foolish, and its timing definately is not too tactful, its probably not as serious as it sounds. Many of the suburbs surrounding Jerusalem are technically in the west bank, but in effect, part of Israel. They will most likely be emancipated into Israel in exchange for other areas whena final peace deal is reached. Metropolitan Jerusalem is not likely to be cleared of its residents in any case, and this does not represent any siginificant territrial expansion.
As for embargoes and the like...well Europe is beyond reason when it comes to Israel. so do your worst.

No Arabs in East Jeruselum are residents not citizens.

I'm not sure about the technicalities, but I believe they have the choice of whether ot be citizens or not. many have chosen not to. They do, however recieve services and benefits from the state of Israel like other residents and citizens (albeit at very unsatisfacory standards- this is a whole other area of debate, however).

I'm just heartbroken that those poor Arabs don't have as much land as they need. Not like everything from Mauritania to Kyrgyzstan is Muslim or anything.

Ah nevermind, I'll just link to PW.

It's not terribly productive, but it's hardly unreasonable for the Jews to want their land free of occupying forces.

You know what I'll always find interesting?.....The way that members of the far right, who ideologically align themselves with facist/authoritarian policies, and who, in the past, championed the works of those such as Henry Ford's factually unsound badmouthing of Jews, now sit here and relentlessly defend the rights of Israel to break all treaties and agreements simply because their Lord Bush has integrated pro Israeli neo-cons into every strata of his Administration.

What a right bit of irony this is....hahaha......the day the starving lion must stand and defend the lamb....

*Shrug*

The US is entitled to support whichever side, but it goes against the doctrine of self-determination to side with Israel on this one. Do you guys still go by that?

If Palestine agreed to provide political support to Israel in dealings with the other Middle-East nations (Syria could try something, you know... having a muslim nation as an ally would be a major Israeli benefit), I'm sure Israel wouldn't mind giving them a little land to call their own. But hey, what do I know? I'm just a kid. ^_^;

Escuse me, do you mean to say that Palestinians are occupying Isreali land?
