Maybe You Should Bitch About It Some More; That Seems To Work

I don't know why people feel that debating on an internet forum is going to solve the world's problems, because it isn't. You people claim you know everything. You think everything that comes out of the website of your political affiliation is the voice of God. Well it isn't. You think you're right about every God damn thing even if you don't know anything about it. You just bitch and bitch about it but you aren't doing anything about it. You want troops out of Iraq faster? Join the army and help them! You want to take "God" out of the pledge? Make a petition! There are ways to make things go your way. There will be people against you of course, but fuck them. They'll just bitch and not do anything about it. If you show some determination you might be able to make things go your way.

I was in the Army. In the Infantry, to be exact. In Iraq, before it was in fashion to do so.

In my copious free time, I help domestic violence victims. Counsel felons. Train victims of violence in how to carry and use a firearm.

I'm not one who thinks I can change the world!

This place is just a good soapbox, it is also a good place to have a good debate. But, if someone hopes to change the world, maybe they should start with their own backyard instead of using a forum that caters to a rabble of malcontent blowhards.

People debate on internet forums because they enjoy it. Nobody harbors any illusions that real national leaders are logging onto NS for ideas on how to run their countries.

Ahhh yes, but then I wouldn't have the anonymity of the internet. Besides, I only do this because sometimes I get bored at work, and these forums provide relief.
I actually am very active politically.

You're bitching on an internet forum about people bitching on internet forums. I'm not saying anything, just felt I should clarify that being the half-troll I moonlight as :)

Oh, the irony of coming on an internet forum and bitching about people bitching over the internet.

EDIT: I got beat to that point by two people.

I agree.

Though, I didn't feel it was necessary to state the obvious.

Fox is doing a very good impression of SideShow Bob, though he should have added, "I'm aware of the irony of whining on a forum."

What's wrong with participating in the Online Special Olypmics? ;)

Its true nothing will change in the greater political world with our actions in the here and now; but sometimes refining your debating skills, opening yourself and your arguments up to criticism, and learning new things about subjects you're interested in can has positive effects down the road.

My line of work leads me down some interesting intellectual paths; I find that NS provides for some interesting opportunities to discover even more.

I enjoy getting a good internet 'debate' going. Its fun to see how many people you can get involved with something, and to see just how many people out there either know what they are talking about or think they do. If I were to set up a debate around here, people wouldn't show up, they would rather sit at home watch tv and play on the internet, so I go to them to piss them off.

I live in a 'bubble', so to speak-everyone in this town agrees for the most part. Add to that I work in the arts, we pretty much all agree. Thats great for my day to day, but not a great way to understand the argument. So I come here to hear the other side of it. And to disagree, because thats my side of it, my minor contribution to the broth. While I'll hardly ever walk off goin' 'That cats right, I've changed my mind' I'll at least understand where they are coming from-which is invaluable. So, if you don't mind, I need the bitching.

Response B: We live in a bitchtocracy-nothing, and I mean nothing, gets done in the US at least, with out a healthy dose of bitching (and don't think your political side doesn't do it for a second). This goes down to a base level, there are those that assert that they can't get a shirt returned with out a heaping helping of bitching. This is just part of the process.

His opinion :D

Nah, I'm joking. The thing is, people will always want to get their opinion out there - even if it is ludicrous in your eyes. There will also be those who feel they need to question your opinion because they cannot see where you are coming from, so to speak. There are also, believe it or not, people who show other people new views and are actually able to change their opinion (albeit none too often). If you feel angry about these threads, Foxx, leave them be. Majority rule means that people will always post in these threads because there are so many different views. Just do what I tend to do with creationist/evolutionist type debates - avoid them (or at least point out some of the more obvious errors ;) )

Maybe they're just not very self-aware.

On the main point, I disagree that internet bitching is not a good thing. For one, it offers a more interactive way to understand the world than you would get in other mediums, such as having O'Reilly (or O'Franken, if that's the way your political compass swings) shout "the truth" at you. Two, it offers the chance for others to critique your own thinking, which at the very least forces you to develop and refine your ideas further than you ordinarily would have. Three, there is no three; three is just a glamour number that gets all the credit when four is pulling the load. Four, right now our nation is having a great conflict of ideas and disagreement over what our nation is supposed to be, and I can't think of a better way of resolving the matter than by having discussions with people who disagree.

Fox is doing a very good impression of SideShow Bob, though he should have added, "I'm aware of the irony of whining on a forum."Adding stuff like that just ruins it. I like to see how many people get the irony and how many of those people think I did it unintentionally and how many of those people get mad because of it.

wait, there are people around here who think our debates will solve the world's problems? who?

You people claim you know everything. You think everything that comes out of the website of your political affiliation is the voice of God. Well it isn't.

as an agnostic, i can definitively assure you that i don't believe anything is the voice of God.

You think you're right about every God damn thing even if you don't know anything about it.

hmm, no, again, as an agnostic i can confidently assert that this doesn't apply to me, either.

you assume we don't do those things already. i know that i do plenty to advance the "causes" i believe in, and i contribute in the real world in many different ways. i also have several hobbies, things i do for myself and for my own enjoyment, and one of those happens to be visiting NationStates. you may believe NationStates is the center of your universe, and you may believe that your personality and your life are totally contained in your NationStates persona, but i would appreciate if you wouldn't project those feelings onto others.
