One of my worst-ever sports-related injuries came while playing pickup basketball. It was toward the end of my junior year in high school and I was going for a steal. Before I knew it, my right pinky was dislocated. The pain was excruciating! That finger will never be completely healed.
The other serious injury I suffered was playing football (soccer to fellow Americans, Aussies, Canadians, New Zealanders, etc.). I suffered a seriously sprained ankle (my amateur diagnosis is a Grade 2 sprain). I was walking with a cane for about a week and it was a few weeks before I could play football again.

Wow. The only sort of sports related injury I've ever recieved was from soccer when I was 6. I got a soccer ball straight to the face. Ow.

We had a great basketball lesson last year - me, two of my friends and one of their boyfriends all broke our left little fingers in the same lesson.
Cool, huh?

WOW, I hope he ends up with functionality in those limbs. I've sprained my ankles and jamed my fingers and even had to get stitches once from a headbutt while playing basketball, but nothing as severe as that guy.

Just the pain of having to endure games of shirts vs. skins when I was a skinny kid in school. Somehow I was always on the skin team...
Never lost any limbs though. I hope the kid recovers completely.
Man, I could write a book about my sports injuries.
middle school:
-kneed in the head. Went unconscious then lost sight in my right eye for an hour
-tennis ball to the left eye knocked my corona loose, had to be reattached
-got tree bark embedded in my left eye, pulled out under anesthesia
-knocked my two front teeth out swimming. Still have fake plaster ones
high school:
-surfing accident left sand grains embedded in my right eye. Were finally pulled out with tweezers
-basketball to the face broke my nose
-Accident on the track field spliced open my left thigh. I think I've still got some gravel in there somewhere :(
college:
-hit the back of my head on the goal post after getting hacked. Had a concussion and lost vision for about 10 minutes
-took a hit to my jaw during pickup, leaving my four lower front teeth embedded in my lower lip. Very painful
-a guy jumped over me to dunk and came down on my head. Bastard left me in a neck brace for a week
I'm a walking disaster. I don't blame insurance companies for giving me high quotes ;). Oddly enough though I've never broken a limb.

At the end of the report:
"All three limbs were shortened to make reattachment possible but Vo would probably still be able to play sport after extensive occupational therapy and rehabilitation, said Love.
"I'm sure that he'll enjoy a game of basketball in the future," he said."
I think I'd take a small bet that he'll want nothing to do with basketball again.

Geez, I thought getting kneed in the gonads was bad.
The worst basketball injury I ever had was breaking a nail. As for soccer, now I've broken an arm and a leg.

I only have really gotten one body part injured in sports, but repeatedly.
Whenever I try to play a sport, I get hit in the head with something solid and fast-moving.

Once a kid in my highschool tried to dunk a basketball in gym class and after he dunked he held on to the rim like a moron and did a pull up, and as he dropped down the net got caught in his teeth and ripped all his front teeth out. Ouch. I unfortuntately didn't get to see it but I heard about it.

Wow, that was really horrible. I feel badly for that poor kid.
I've never had any injuries playing organized sports - then again, I don't really find myself playing that many. This year alone in snowboarding however, I have racked up a few injuries. I dislocated my ankle on New Years (don't ask, I feel stupid), and earlier in January I blew out my right knee. Thinking it was feeling quite a bit better I went up this last weekend and blew out both my left and right knees over gapping a table in the park and flat spotting my landing. So right now Im hobbling around like some degenerate, looking like someone hit me in the knee caps with a sledge hammer.
Hmm... the prices we pay for fun! Legless and I should really get on quite well now that we both walk the same!! Yay! :p

It's barely noticeable. :p
As I've mentioned before, I seem to have a bullseye on my genitals that I can't see. Because I have gotten struck in the groin uncomfortably often.
I've also broken a couple ribs, my nose and dislocated my hip(that sucked!) during athletic activities.
The worst I had was one of my fingernails getting knocked backwards into my finger...

This was beyond stupid. I was just complete and udder dumbass for lowering myself to that level. I don't blame him for punching me. It was a few years ago, I was trying to make some money and I was a little bit desperate, etc. I kept it a secret for a long time but as soon as the word got out I knew my brother would be there with a whip in hand :p

Whatever it was, at least you're big enough to admit your mistake. But correct me if I'm wrong, in most situations, isn't family supposed to be there for you, and not against you, in any situation?

They're not against me. It's discipline and punishment that I rightly deserve.

Well, I can't think of any reason to ever hit a woman - but either way from what you've told me you and your brother are pretty good to each other. Perhaps its just as simple as a different system of beliefs between us when it comes to punishment - I just can't see you 'deserving' it. In any case, as long as the two of you are on good terms then all is well I suppose.
Sorry Jamil, I didn't mean to dredge up the past.
*huggles* No hard feelings? :)

No biggie.
Who gives a shit about women getting hit by men. Feminists always say that womyn :D are just as strong as men but they get all pissed if a man hits a woman. It's alright if a woman hits a man but it isn't the other way around. Where's the equality in that? And yes, me and my brother are tight. I don't take anything he does out of anger too personally unless I know he really means it.

Well, thats a tough one - I was raised to think that its never ok to hit a woman. Perhaps that does make me sexist, but if so its a charge I happily accept. Im all for equality on so many levels - I dont think that a woman should hit a man either, but for some reason it does seem much worse for a man to hit a woman.
Im glad you and your brother are close though, thats so important. I cant tell you in words the strength of sentiments I carry for my family, and for others to hold theirs tightly.
On a side note: Happy 700!! :fluffle:
