Why in the name of all things good and Holy...

...did the Democratic adopt the freaking Donkey as it's symbol?!? Really, who the hell is responsible for this? Who ever it was had to either have one hell of a twisted sense of humor, no sense of humor at all, or be a plant from the opposite party. Sure, you could say that it represents the working man but still, the Donkey is only efficient to ANY degree when it is forcibly rendered sub-servant to a higher life form. Even this perspective isn't doing them any favors!

Honest question, who the hell is responsible for making an Ass the symbol of the Democratic party and by God, WHY?!?

PS:

The Democrats would be far better represented by the Panda.

The comparisons we get to a jackass during election seasons are an experience of their own.

I'm sure the Republicans would be able to tie pandas and "the evil hippies" together in some way. Maybe even whip out "tree huggers".

What about an eagle. It's the symbol of America and has no insults that can be deduced from it.

Originally, the Donkey was used as a negative connotation in political cartoons suggesting democrats were long-winded and knee-jerks. The Elephant also had a negative connotation. They follow each other around by the tail, were bulbous and costly to feed.

$400 billion deficits... sounds right.

Well most Democrats I personally know act like asses when I discuss politics - and *why* the panda?

Don't feel be Ekland. Don't look at it like that. Donkeys aren't near as fat as elephants. They don't consume as much and they still carry a ton of weight.

I was thinking more along the lines of being sustained only in a isolated environment by a more successful being (welfare), totally refusing to further themselves (staying on welfare), refusing to reproduce (homosexuals), being pacifistic even in the face of extinction, getting owned by industrial expansion purely from their own stubbornness and inflexibility, and being all around a useless being but still maintaining a cute imagine.

THAT however, was just my inner asshole talking, don't mind him. ;)

Back on topic please.

That would be unfortunate since pandas are my national animal, but I'm all for it. :D

It's in reference to Andrew Jackson, who was the first person to go under the heading of "Democrat." He was often compared to a jackass by his contemporaries.

It's one of those things that no one planned, but it stuck anyway. Besides, after 150 years of using it, how successful do you think that they would be trying to change it?

Like a new imagine and a little reorganization could POSSIBLY hurt the ailing party more then their status-quo.

Besides, I think the Starling is a better representative of the American Citizen then the Eagle.

Hmm... I don't know if that's coming from an elephant but I know that even a jackass knows that responsibilit is not a word. ;)

they didn't adopt that as their animal, it was kind of given to them. same as the elephant with republicans. there was this political cartoon in the 1800s that used those animals to represent them and it stuck. do you people know what political party the ostrich is of in the united states? i've seen it a couple times before next to the elephant and the donkey, but i don't know what party it's of. my guess would be libertarian.

look, democrats, even though you are just republicans who dont hate poor people quite as much, id rather you won then them so heres the plan right...

1. find a new species of bird
2. name it the "patriot bird", or better yet "all american hero patriot bird"
3. adopt it as party symbol
4. run for presidency

this works in a similar way to the patriot act, in that it uses the word patriot in it, so americans are all in favour of it. simple really. i might copyright this idea actually, thats how confident i am of its success.

I think the elephant would be better suited if it had a big fat white Christian Male sitting on top of feeding the elephant 100$ bills.

You'd be better served to ask the question; What did the deomocrats do to become associated with a jack-ass?
