'Tis your page file. You really need to free up some space, or just buy a new hard drive.

I'm not really the person to answer this but my best guess would be devils. Are their devils on the hard drive? That could be the problem.

Could be what's reserved for the recycle bin and web cache...

Are you shure it's full in C:? Could be your looking at a disk drive that has a cd in it.
OR: The picture is all grey because you have a large hard drive that you do not see the white 500 mb space on the pic. Does not mean you dont have 500 mb free space.

This may be hard to understand.

A possible idea, does windows use hard disk space for a virtual memory? can I check that if it does as that is my thinking as to what the problem may be

Windows does indeed use free HDD space as Virtual Memory. It's called a Page File, and that is your problem. You need to clear some unnecessary programs and delete some files you don't need. Or, you could buy a new hard drive.

I look in windows explorer and it says that I have 500mb free, but when I try to copy a file to the hard drive (it was a 20mb one) it says it cant as the drive is full.
If it is the page file, can I change the amount a hdd space allocated to it?

I have done a disk clean up (I.e. deleted temp internet files etc)

That will only make your problems worse. Allocating less than 500mb for a page file will make load times excrutiatingly long, and will most likely crash your computer if you load a big program, like Half-Life.

I dont load any large programs, they use Firefox and word, so it shouldnt matter if it is smaller.

It's most likely being used by swap ram, which is when windows uses the hard drive as extra ram. How much ram do you have? how much are you using? Either get a new hard drive (bigger) or some ram; I'd suggest the hard drive though just because you'll need it soon anyways. 500MB isn't that much...
