I need some ideas! I need the names of "new" films to see, below is a list of movies I really like so you can get an idea of what kind of films I like and list what you think I might like to see. I listed the type of films I like in BOLD. Films from the late 80's will do but mostly 1990-present.
I like the most true storys, historic based films.
Any help will do. Thank You.

Western
Tombstone
Dances With Wolfes
Maverick

War
We Were Soldiers
Band of Brothers (TV MINI SERIES)
Stalingrad (German)
A Midnight Clear
Good Morning Vietnam
Gettysburg
Gods and Generals
Gallipoli
Michael Collins

Epic
Alexander
Gladiator

-Medevil
Braveheart
Joan of Arc
13th Warrior

Vampire
Interview With the Vampire
Dracula (Gary Oldman)

Pirate
Pirates of the Caribbean
The Bounty (Hopkins,Gibson)
Patra Caesar

For a good Vampire film try Brahm Stoker's Dracular (I don't know if this is the one with Gary Oldman, but it is the best of modern times).

'American Beauty' is nice
I liked 'Momento' too
I, Robot
A.I.

There's 5 suggestions...

Edit: If you liked 'Gallipoli' you could try another Australian war movie, like "Breaker Morant," and "The odd angry shot"( Vietnam).:)

I'll recommend Silverado (not a true story, but it's one hell of a ride) and Wyatt Earp.

War
We Were Soldiers
Band of Brothers (TV MINI SERIES)
Stalingrad (German)
A Midnight Clear
Good Morning Vietnam
Gettysburg
Gods and Generals
Gallipoli
Michael Collins

I don't see how you could possibly like Gods and Generals... However, I'm recommending War and Piece (the English version) and Saving Private Ryan.

Epic
Alexander
Gladiator

Laurence of Arabia, War and Piece (the Russian version).

-Medevil
Braveheart
Joan of Arc
13th Warrior

Monty Python and the Holy Grail (lol), The Vikings (an excellent film starring Kirk Douglas)

Vampire
Interview With the Vampire
Dracula (Gary Oldman)

Hmm... Sorry, haven't seen any Vampire movies other than those two.

Pirate
Pirates of the Caribbean
The Bounty (Hopkins,Gibson)

Meh, haven't seen any more of these, either.

Gods and Generals was good but not great, I like the way the actor playd "Stonewall" Jackson, very human not like a 'super war general' that never flinches under fire or never thinks about his men. I also like the way they showd how things were changing in the South at that time, like at the Virginia Military Institute, and how life at that time was in general.
Thanks for the ideas.

The Australians know how to make a movie!
Thank You Very Much.:)

:D Well if you like our movies (and we make shamefully few) then I have a few more suggestions!:)

"Two Hands" Starring Heath Ledger (Knight's Tale, Patriot, Ten Things I hate about you , shot him to fame here and started his illustrius career. This fictional film about life in Melbourne's underworld goes full circle.;)

"Chopper" Starring Eric Bana (Blackhawk Down, Troy, Incredible Hulk Another Melbourne underworld movie, this one based upon Chopper Reid. Yes, uncle Chop Chop now does TV adverts for the government, "If you speed that makes you as bad as me, because you will kill someone."

"Moulin Rouge" Now there is a lot of contraversy about if this in fact an Australian film. Directed by Baz Luhrman (Strictly Ballroom, Romeo and Juliet) who did the voice and lyrics of "the Sunscreen song" and with an all Australian cast and crew with many local cameos (except the lead male actor who's name escapes me but was in "Trainspoitting"). Many say it is not an Australian film because, despite it utilizing Australian talent and being shot in Australia it uses American money and several foreign film techniques.

"The Dish" and "The Castle" are the crowning peices of Working Dog films, which are more famous here for their TV shows. The dish follows the story of the Parkes observatory, the biggest in the southern hemisphere and was used to recieve the moonlanding and the spacewalk. "The Castle" is a must see. A truely Australian film about a family who the government is trying to evict in order to expand the runway.

"Year my voice broke" A film starring Noah Taylor (Tomb Raider I & II, Vanilla Sky, Almost Famous) you will never be able to see. It is almost impossible to find in Australia. Set in the rural outback in the 60's (I think) it follows a teenage boy and his story.

"Shine" Starring Geoffry Rush (Elizabeth, Pirates of the Carribean, Tailor of Panama) is the amazing story of David Helfgott, world famour pianist who lost his mind, but found something of it again through music and love.

"Died with a Falafel in his hand" Starring Noah Taylor is set once again in seedly Melbourne (If you want to make an Australian Gangster/underworld/crime fil it has to be in Melbourne. So far there have been 27 victims in the underworld war that rages on down there). Quite abstract, funny and brutal.

"Priscilla: Queen of the desert" Classic, with Hugo Weaving (Matrix I, II & III, lord of the Ring I, II & III) Absolutly fantastic in all aspects, full technical usage of national film techniques, excellent script, well acted, quite funny.

"Ned Kelly" I haven't seen yet, but Ned Kelly is a massive part of Australian folk lore. A man who would not capitulate and was killed by the government for it.

"Dirty Deeds" is an Australian/American film but is viewed more Australian than Moulin Rouge because of the way in which it is shot. Set in the Sydney underworld in the 1960's this recent film starring Dan Goodman and a host of Australian actors is the tale of the rivalries caused by the introduction of poker machines and fast food.

One reason why the few films (and film producers) produced in Australia are usually of a high quality is that many people find they have to take on multiple roles. This cannot happen in places like America or Bollywood where the film industry booms so much that they are able to find a person for every job. This disadvantage however is turned into advanatge because these producers of film gain a much better understanding of the workings of films. Sorry for rabbling on for so long!

Vampire: Every vampire movie I have seen lately sucked. I guess I'd say the "Blade" movies but they weren't great.
Pirates: Hmmm. Not many pirate movies come out these days. There is a sequal to Pirates of the Carribean coming out. Watch that.

For Comedy, I'd go with Down Periscope (Kelsey Gammar; Rip Torn).

For War, you can always try Rules of Engagement (Tommy Lee Jones; Samuel L. Jackson).

However, if there's only one war movie you watch, try Behind Enemy Lines starring Owen Wilson and Gene Hackman. In fact, all Gene Hackman films are good. Like Crimson Tide (also starring Denzel Washington).

Ewan McGregor? (sp?)

Every vampire movie I have seen lately sucked.

Was that a deliberate pun? :-)

And I'm afraid I have nothing useful to add to this thread. I'll be going now...

Cannot think of a name

If you liked Dances With Wolves the better version of the story (without the convinient white woman in the tribe for the guy to fall for) would be Black Robe.

A Very Long Engagement was a nice romantic anti-war movie, which is hard to do when you think about it...(see, you can just put up the english title of Jeunet movies and then everyone knows what you're talking about...)

Salesman...alright, nothing on your list suggested you'd like that movie-I just think that everyone should watch it...
