I want to have your opinion on this movie - right now I'm ordering 2001: A Space Odyssey and I'm wondering if I should get the sequel

No. Don't touch it. If you must see it, rent it or borrow it, but do not spend your money on it. It is a complete waste of time. Read the book, sure, but that movie is a steaming pile of Hell.

It's a good movie, IMHO, but it's obviously not a Kubrick classic.

2010 was good Science Fiction... a bit dated now, but so is 2001.

2001 had a sense of wonder and mystery that 2010 didn't have, and is a classic. 2010 isn't a classic, but its still pretty good.

I saw it and I like it.

Don't read the spoiler if you haven't seen it/read the book yet! (spoiler warning!)
It also inspired me to turn jupiter into a star in my celestia program :D

Why say that? I can, however, see the lacking of the Kubrick touch.

I bought it for five bucks on VHS when a local video store closed. If you can find it at an inexpensive price, it's worth it. Buying it at full price isn't worth it though.

Haven't seen 2010, but I think 2001 has held up pretty well against the test of time...compared to other movies and series' from that era. :)

Do not see 2010. It makes 2001 look like the world's most incredible rollercoaster ride.

I'm not saying that 2001 was a bad film (in fact, it was brilliant). I'm just saying that it was boring.
