Most Annoying Fad of the 90s???

Zotona

I'm fairly young, so the only fads I have ever participated in are 90s fads... I am fad-immune now in this new millenium... or like to think I am. ;) So, my question is this... what's the most annoying fad of the 90s?

(Poll coming soon)

Pop artists. Toys and Kids' Shows can be dealt with. Grunge can be laughed at for being pointless and dirty. Pop music cannot be...tolerated...by anyone...

Unquestionably the teen pop music of the late 90's. I'm not a fan of gangsta rap, but Straight out o' Compton alone is better than the sum total of everything ever produced out of the teenybopper genre.

I've gotta agree with you there. Teeny Boppers from the 90's were far worse than Gangsta Rap.

As an investor: Daytrading by far. It was the damn daytraders that ended up causing the dot com bubble and ruining the economy. Even worse, I was one of them (bought CMGI in Mar 2000, JDSU as well, both above $150, now under $2) :(

I wouldn't say that daytraders were the cause; merely a symptom of the larger problem, which was people buying without any consideration for how much money companies were actually making. I'd imagine in the future the dot-com bubble will make a great case study of groupthink in action.

Something else I uncovered:

90210 Dolls
They were dolls like Barbie except it was the 90210 gang. There was Kelly Taylor aka Jennie Garth, Dylan McKay aka Luke Perry, Brenda Walsh aka Shannon Dorethey and I think there were Donna and Brandon dolls. I don't remember Andrea or David dolls. They came out around 91 or 92 when the show was a big hit.

The most annoying would be a cross between Firby and the pop music. You can't get away from both. They were everywhere. My mother even bought one: the thing would not shut the [censored] up. You would have to go through bloody stages just to make the thing go to sleep (rub it's belly for 5 seconds, clap your hands, do a dance, cook dinner, do 50 push ups [ok I exagerated]).

I actually threw the thing down the basement stairs (but then had to purchase a new one for my mom :headbang: ).

Well I'm glad those things are gone and done with.

Oh, and why isn't the stupid Tickle me Elmo craze up there? Or the bloody beanie babies. Those were big, too big if you ask me. *shrudders from bad memories*

Spice Girls was British, the rest of the world suffered.

Gangsta rap was nowhere near as bad as Britney and the teenybop crap ... although I happen to like rap so I could be biased.

Oh, and those damned Furbies. I remember that stupid thing. My mom woke the family up at 5 am, drove 30 miles to the nearest city, stood in line for over an hour for the store to open, then everyone in the line mad dashed for the thing. My mom just had to go get one for my brother and my cousin. Couldn't shut up, was forgotten about in two months, and was the biggest waste of $30 ever.

Yeah, forgot that temporarily. I'm sure the Brits had some appropriate grudge.
Gangsta rap is stil popular here, but the whole stupid style associated with it is even worse. (Middle class kids in Japan trying to be all "ghetto" are even sadder than middles class kids doing the same in the US - at least the ones in the US may actually be close enough to the hoods all that stuff came out of to know a little bit. The ones here...)

Ugh, had to go bring up Hanson too. *head explodes* Sad thing is, they still got cult following. Least they're not in the mainstream anymore.

I think it might be a sad thing to admit, but one of my friends still admits to liking the Spice Girls and constantly listens to their music. As in playing Wannabe about 16 times in a row. Pretty sad sight.

When it comes to annoying, nothing is more annoying than random crack-ass Furbies waking you up in the middle of the night. Not to mention the fact that it took extreme talent and a million years to turn the suckers off. I hated those things and got two for Christmas! Also, second place is reserved for the Giga pets, when you get three and they all beep incessantly you should consider the use of a hammer and nails.

Pop bands most definitely. Oh and any dance music. I hate any sort of music that takes credit away from real musicians, because it is a talent to play music and to get no recognition is just wrong.

That and the songs GOT STUCK IN YOUR HEAD!!! ARRRGGGHHH.

I never got on board any of those trends, except maybe Pogs, but I was young at that time (I'm only 19 now)

Puffy is NOT a poser? Give me a fuckin break. What the hell did this guy do before he made it big rapping? Did he sell drugs? Get shot? Nothing that I can remember. He doesn't mention the streets in his songs, real street life. He is one hell of a buisness personality though, he can market himself and his empire quite nicely.

Busta ... sorta like Puff. Doesn't mention the streets. Not bad talent, but doesn't mention the streets. Although I didn't care too much for the Genesis album.

50 ... he used to be street. Now he's a Ja Rule style little bitch. Doin chick raps and club bangers.

Half the people on the poser list you mentioned were from St. Louis. And yes, they're pretty bad talentwise (least what's in the mainstream anyway).

Fat Joe has street cred. Least more than Puff or Busta.

I just wanted to get that out. Now back to bad 90's fads...

For us roleplayers out there is would have to be DBZ. As for the real lifers I would have to say the Y2K craze.

You kind of bi-passed the early 90's for us in the slightly older crowd there...

Why not include things like spandex? *shudders*

Why not include things like spandex? *shudders*I agree! Spandex is never a good thing... unless worn at the gym, that's it!

(And maybe this is silly... but while many of the options given in the poll would have annoyed me once-upon-a-time, now they just make me reminisce!)

I'm fairly young, so the only fads I have ever participated in are 90s fads... I am fad-immune now in this new millenium... or like to think I am. ;) So, my question is this... what's the most annoying fad of the 90s?

(Poll coming soon)

Republicans. :D

(And I'm hunting down everyone that says "grunge music" and forcing them to listen to Nirvan until they darn well appreciate it! :D )

Definately Power Rangers. That is the most repetitive program I have ever seen. Every episode seems to be made on a template, like the Famous Five books (holidays, someone screams, get kidnapped, et al). The exact same things happen in every episode of every series. You know, the idiotic hunk of rubber appears, blows the Power Rangers up a bit, they take him down, he gets bigger and develops a warped voice, the Power Rangers get in an equally cheesy piece of plastic and kick the bad guy to death. Yawn.

As far as I remember, Biggy pulled him out of the streets and into the lights before anyone could've shot him.

Busta ... sorta like Puff. Doesn't mention the streets. Not bad talent, but doesn't mention the streets. Although I didn't care too much for the Genesis album.

Ah, who was the person that grew up with Busta. They were raised on the streets but I forgot he came into the mainstream scene with.

50 ... he used to be street. Now he's a Ja Rule style little bitch. Doin chick raps and club bangers.

I agree but hey, his songs are fun aren't they?

I didn't call it a poser list ;) I have nothing against St. Lous.

I just don't like Fat Joe...

Middle-class white boys trying to ghettoize themselves. It's absurd. Middle-class women feeling the need to get breast implants and plastic surgery. Would that be a specific form of "trying to be something you are not" or perhaps "caving in to 'popular culture' and trying to pretend you are what the media and television tells one they should be"? I don't know, but it seemed to take on a new and ghastly prevalence in the 90's and continues to this day.
