Goal of Parenthood

Today at Friday Prayer, the Imam was speaking about the goals of parenthood (to provide the best educational future for your children, to raise your children to be healthy, etc.)

What do you think is the ultimate goal (notice it's not a plural...) for a parent?

To give your child a better life than the one you had growing up.

I misread this at first. I thought it said the God of parenthood. I honestly can't ell you. I guess to help your kids get their foot throught the door of life.

What about someone like Bill Gates, it's gonna be hard to top that. Unless it's your personal ultimate goal, then yeah. That's my personal goal too.

To make sure they earn enough for you to sponge off of them when you're a pensioner.

Feeling a little cynical, eh?

And to make sure they wont stick you in a nursing home featured on Dateline.

To teach them to think for themselves, so they won't have to listen to imams, priests, shamans, rabbis, politicians or the like.

But listening to people of wisdom can be a big part of the data collection process when formulating your own opinion. You shouldn't not listen to them, on the contrary you should often. Just don't swallow everything the say, hook, line, and sinker. Take it and rate it. Either try to reconcile tit with your views or throw it away. Don't ignore others, though, that fosters ignorance.

The goal of parenthood is to make the child able to become the best person they can become.

If you teach a child to be a good person, the rest (money, education, ethics, spirituality, etc.) will take care of itself naturally.

i say to parent children who become superior to all others, or if that is evil sounding or unacceptable just to get them out of the house
