I'm with RB. Both suck pretty uber-bad. I think that a police state does limit more than a welfare state. But they both are horrible ideas.

I've gotta say that a Police State is worse.

50s Britain had one of the best standards of living in the world, and was indeed a welfare state.

I don't happen to think there's anything wrong with the Welfare State, as it includes in its defination any state that provides some sort unemployment insurance, healthcare, or social security. Considering that that includes most modern states in the western world, and I manage pretty well in the one I live in but don't happen to think I would in a police state, I'm prone to thinking that the Police State is worse.

Well, if you are comparing it to a Police state, I assume you are using the extremist total welfare model. However, what excludes a nation from being both?

I was tempted to vote inherently evil, but instead voted for police state. I think a welfare state can be beneficial to the people.
I was using the extreme form. I thought if I use one extreme I have to use another extreme.

I have to say that, conducted logically, both are effective and worthwhile choices, but I accidentally voted Police State.
