Really, it seems that there are two types of religious people. There are those who are inspired by their religion to do good, and there are those who use their religion as an excuse to do evil.

With almost all faiths there is sufficient room for various "interpretations." This allows those with prejudices and preconcieved notions to rationalize their own bias. Sad, but true.

That would seem to be the case. The trick is to understand these things

- How to see between the two (this might seem obvious but in certian cases it can be less clear)

- Religion of itself is for good, not evil

- To keep an open mind to the end of "Good"

You forgot those like me who don't give a flying fuck either way. Good/Evil/Fuck all. I only serve to please Allah, not to fulfill mankind's petty notions of good and evil.

No true believer engage in acts of evil under the name of God. Only Satan enpowers people to do evil things.

Almost everyone thinks they're doing good most of the time. They interpret their religions to justify their actions. Truly good and evil acts are rare.
