Her name is constantly being mispronounced. Every news outlet does it. They pronounce it shy-vo instead of ski-avo. They're not even pronouncing it phonetically. They just invented a new pronunciation for an Italian word meaning "slave".

I know that on CNN they can't pronouce some English words! I remember that when they had the embedded reporters first going into Iraq, the female newcaster in the newroom for CNN couldn't even properly pronouce cavalry.

Well you're sort of right. It's more like Americans don't learn foreign languages. (For the most part; I am one of the exceptions).

A family member just asked me how I pronounced her name and I was not sure what to say.

Yeah, but I could do what her parents did and edit together a videotape that makes it look like she's complaining.

I called and asked ... she said her name was "aaaarghpbbbtthhhblblblblblarrrrrrppffft" and asked for a sandwich.

Make that video. I'd pay at least $10 for it.

That's a pet peeve of mine. Pronounce your name the way it's spelled. I can't spell my name ahkfsdvgpoiashd and expect people to pronounce it Joe.

In English, you can pretty much find a way to pronounce anything with anything.

For example, ghoti.

It's pronounced fish.

As an american and an amatuer linguist I must say that the correct word is "disgrace" as in "the ignorance of americans is a national disgrace."

Actually it is a disgrace to think that you can visit a foreign country and not speak their language exclusively. I know that I would at least attempt to speak the language of the country I am visiting. It is after all good manners to speak to one in their native tongue and not be rude and speak a language they might not know.

On the subject of the Schivao and bugging me, there is indeed one thing that bugs me more than the mispronunciation of her name.

If this was a case involving a criminal that killed 20 people the same Liberals that want this woman to die. Would be all up in arms about that person being put to death, if this was about a terrorist that blew up a building and killed 20 people the same people that are wishing this woman to die, would be there with their pickets clamoring for a humane response and their life to be spared, If it was a dictator that killed 100,000's of his/her own people these same people wanting to put this woman to death would be there clamoring for international support to save said dictators hide.

I am not sure what this says about these people perception life and death. Nor do I want to fathom it.

Looks like trolling to me. You are insulting "liberals" based on bullshit biased opinion and asserting it as truth. I'm a "liberal" and I think people who commit heinous crimes should be killed with a prejudice and I think this woman should be allowed to die.

However, if you want to make a PROVEABLE point you could show how many of the same people who support keeping this woman's feeding tube in support the death penalty.
