As a lot of you may know, I'm planning on studying fashion design in college. Probably in a year-year and a half. SoI have a question for everyone. Would you wear/find it useful to have extra, noticeable seams on the back of a woman's shirt to signify she is having her period?

Well a lot of woman can be emotional. Have trouble putting their feelings to words. I wouldn't wear it all the time, but I can remember a few instances where it would have saved a lot of embarassment and hurt feelings. I guess it depends on your experience. A lot of women can get more emotional at this point then they'd want o imagine. Some don't. I don't believe all woman are bitchy during their time of the month. I know a lot of woman who would openly admit it. It was quite embarassing and awkward but then I could avoid them. I had originally heard of this on a television show and wondered other people thought.

Do you think this would be useful?

Would the front of the shirt say "If you get in my way, I'll slap you in the face with my tampon"?

Because... well, that'd be pretty neat. Even if I don't use tampons.

...

More seriously, that sounds like a sort of nifty idea. I know I'd appreciate the option to wear a shirt and have people avoid me... it'd lead to less post-period-apologies, I'm sure >.>

No. Periods differ so vastly from woman to woman that something signifying someone is on her period is not as universal a sign as people like to make out. My period hardly affects me at all... I seldom bother informing people that it's happening, just because there's no point. On the other hand, one of my friends couldn't even go to class today because her period just started and she was so miserable. And in that case you don't need seams either, it's obvious enough from other signs for those who really want to know things like that. Besides... I've never heard of this before. Just how typical is this? :o

Anyway, to summarize, my opinion is that it's a silly idea.

I'd have to agree. I've thought about line of tees. Your idea would be good. Other sayings I have thought of: "You're an oaf", "Jesus is hot". Of course the Jesus one would include a picture of Brad Pitt in that one movie where helooked like Jesus.

It would also curb on the "I have my period" announcements. :D

Well, for a lot of women and the people they encounter, it could be a nice thing. In my opinion anyway. even if it's for your "period", you could wear it whenever you want. It's not like they're going to ask forevidence when you walkout of your house.

I'm firstly a woman and secondly a devout feminist, and while I hate the monthly bleed, I welcome the evidence that I haven't been knocked up for yet another cycle.

What I hate the most about periods is how a man will 'accuse' you of having a period when you confront them about something, or speak your mind about something that you think is wrong. The bleed has become a cultural excuse for a man to ignore a woman's right to speak up, even when it's completely justified.

I am pro-equality, and I think a woman wearing clothes that mark her as a target for those more ignorant men is a step right back to the dark ages, no matter how enlightened we try to be about accepting and loving a woman's body. Maybe in a few thousand years, when chauvinism has been bred out of the last of the sexist maggots, we can wear clothes that mark us as 'on the bleed' but until then, I do't think it's a great idea.

1) This will be really funny when someone's 97 year old grandma is wearing your shirt.

2) I do not believe in announcing one's bodily functions publicly. It's rude, in my opinion. After all, polite conversation generally does not include details about one's bowel movements, the contents of one's handkerchief, or gaseous emissions. I see one's period as no different.

3) Whatever would the purpose be? To signal that the person is not sexually available? To signify that they are, for those who are interested in such things? As a pre-excuse for rude behavior? As a warning of possible uncontrollable mood swings?
