You know, ever since Friday, litterly EVERYONE has been fighting over Terri. local courts, state courts, Jeb Bush, George Bush, 11th district circut court, congress. The list just goes on and on. Is anyone else frighten by how much of our government is involved in one person? I mean if they're invovled in one person this much, then what does the future hold? Will the government turn into Big Brother? Will the government make a law outlawing the right to die rules? I am a member of the right-to-die group. I believe that if a person is suffering, on a machine, and has no chance of recovery, then he or she has a right to end her or his life. I'm just frighten by how involved our government is in one person.

I'm not frightened. I'm pissed off.

It shouldn't have gone this far.

Umm... no, not about this. I'm no more scared about this then the day the towers came down or Bush was reelected. The government, at least the US government, has always been involved with an individual person. I'm not sure where you live but we don't have any rules about the right-to-die except for those that involve the lack of.

Actually we do, indirectly. The right to self determination. Also the consitution regulates the government powers on the invidual life. I guess everyone in D.C. is jut taking a leak on the consitution now.

Okay okay-wait-okay, have you seen that movie Dogma? Yeah? Okay, so, like, in that movie, right? There's this dude, ya? He's in a coma-right, and like they're just keepin' him like that, right? But it turns out-okay, that, like, that dude is actually god-but like if the body of god is in a coma it won't die and then like god will be absent, okay-and so like all these demons and devils and shit can do all the crazy world ending crap they want and god can't do anything about it 'cause s/he's in a coma and like can't get out 'cause they're keepin' him/her alive....so I'm thinkin', right...they want to keep her in a coma, right? See what I'm gettin' at, yeah?

sorry, I'll go now...

I'm pissed as well. Really, who in their right mind would want to live like that? Anybody who knew they were going to get into that situation would say LEAVE THE DAMN FEEDING TUBE OUT ALREADY. Anyone who would force someone to stay alive in that state is just plain cruel and unreasonable. Cruel to the family, cruel to the victim, and cruel to the people that watch the event unfold.

This pisses me off to no end. The only reason it has gotten this far is because the parents believe that she would want to live. This woman has been in a coma for years, and has suffered permenant brain damage. These parents are trying to save the daughter they had instead of the daughter they will have if she ever manages to come out of the coma...which doesn't seem likely.

Also...last time I checked, parents generally stop making decisions for their kids when they turn 18. It's the husband who should be the one to make this decision, and he has decided to let go.

These parents should let go too...

This is an issue for the family and possably the state government. The involvement of the federal government is rediculous on such a deeply personal issue.

I'm scared more by the willingness to kill a living, breathing human being more than anything else.

You see if terrorists wanted to be useful they'd blow up buildings like the hospital she's living in so we'd quit our stupid bickering and go bomb some tents and call them terrorist camps. America FOREVER!!!!

I think we should make the whole situation a game show and pit the parents against the husband. The winner has to insert the feeding tube into a random orifice of the person of their choice (take this mom and dad!!!). Think of the ratings.

No government should have will over the people. Ever. Federal, state, local, etc. There is only one person that can make the choice--that was her. She told her husband (legal guardian at this point), and that is all that counts. We have to take his word on it--the parents are clinging to something that cannot happen.

The parents have no say after age 18. They'll never have the daughter they knew back.

Gotta love the smear campaign on the husband. Anyone that thinks he's being unfaithful or is doing this out of greed: He's been fighting for this for 15 years. He's out of money, the lawyer's not getting paid (hasn't been for some time), and he's still trying to enact the will of his wife. That IS devotion to one you love.

One thing I've learned from this: Get it down on paper before it happens.

I'm scared that she's some how going to miraculously live and we'll be stuck with massive pilgrimages. I mean, really, how much would that suck.

It was a tough scrap, but I managed to get a piece of her ear. I'm going to keep it in a small gold reliquary as a sign of my dedication to the culture of life.

That would be a bit odd.
We'd probably end up with a new cult or something formed around it.
